Command-down behaviour on files

Would it be possible to have Cmnd-Down behave the same way as in the Finder for instance (or being able to configure its behaviour)? On folders it opens the folder as one would expect, but I would like it to trigger the 'Edit' menu command when run on a file, instead of executing a multiple select. I tried to modify the Edit command shortcut in the keyboard system preferences, but the new menu shortcut assignment is not taken into account at the application level (probably a custom listener lower down the event chain?). Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I see what you mean. Looking at it again, it appears that Cmd-Down is the same action as a double click. Would it be reasonable to change the behavior to match the Double Click Action setting in the Preferences? It would make sense to me.

As for the reply, yes, I think that would make perfect sense. However I guess it requires setting up a new option as people used to the previous behaviour... well, you know the story.

Now that I think of it, not sure how you'll get around to it, since adding yet another option to the preferences window will make it even harder to read than it is now... Maybe a hidden setting to activate?

Well you live and learn. I never knew that Cmd-down was like Cmd-O for a file. That's actually a pretty weird choice, but I suppose it is slightly easier to type than Cmd-O.

What I wish Apple would do in the Finder is follow Windows in using Return or Enter to open a file: select the file, hit Return to open it. That would be so good. Using Return to rename a file is just silly -- I want to open files many more times than I want to rename them.

Fortunately our hero JD bowed to my suggestion a couple of years ago and added that feature to Yummy. We just need Apple to follow...

I would just like to add my name to the "would like to have" list…

Navigating around the Finder in list view is achieved using just the command key and the up/down arrows.

The only piece of the jigsaw that is missing here is the auto-selection of the child folder when moving up one level. i.e. when pressing cmd-up in the Desktop folder you get deposited into your home folder with the Desktop folder selected.

Any chance?
