Starting Yummy FTP without connecting to a server
« on: October 01, 2011, 06:38:34 PM »
I've just started using Yummy FTP and started setting up bookmarks for my various web sites.  I've found that, when I start Yummy, it connects to one or more of the servers I've bookmarked.  I have gone to the bookmark edit mode and advanced options, but "Auto-connect at startup" is not checked on any of them.

Is it possible to start Yummy without connecting to a server on startup?

I'm using an iMac with lion (OS X 10.7.1).

Thanks.

This is not Yummy doing this but a new feature Apple added to Lion called auto-resume.

Apple didn't think that some people might not want that behaviour so they didn't provide a way to turn it off ...

Thankfully I managed to find a way to stop it and I have added a check box named 'Enable auto-resume' in the next update. You can access a beta version by un-checking the 'Ignore betas' checkbox in the Software Update panel of the Preferences, Save then choose Check For Updates from the Yummy FTP menu.

Otherwise, the way to avoid the new Lion feature is to make sure all your windows are closed before you quit Yummy.

OK, this explains why Safari opens to the last web page I visited instead of my homepage.

What an annoying feature!  I just purchased this new Mac and just got an e-mail from Apple this morning thanking me for the purchase.  I'll see if there's a way to leave feedback on it.  Maybe they'll provide a way to turn it off if there's enough negative feedback about it.

Thanks for the explanation.  I'll try the beta.

There is a way to turn it off:

I tried to provide a link to an article on PC Magazine's web site explaining how to turn it off, but apparently there are no links allowed here???

OK, just open System Preferences and select the General settings.  Un-check the box next to "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps".  That's it.  It might auto-resume the first time you quit and re-start an app, but the next time it will not.

I can now open Yummy without connecting to the last server.  Safari now opens to my homepage, too.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I'm sorry - I wasn't very clear : there isn't a way to set a preference on an app by app basis. The beta provides that ability.

Links cannot be posted due to an unfortunately large number of spammers that visit forums like this and post links to ED stores an porn sites.

But yes, you are absolutely right about the System-Wide setting in System Preferences.

I did want the system-wide setting.

Forum spamming has become a huge problem.  I operate several forums and have ways to combat spammers.  They never gain access to any of mine.  Contact me directly if you want some help with that.

Thanks.
