Visually comparing files
« on: November 11, 2011, 07:21:13 AM »
I recently went to work in a studio where a developer was using Smart FTP on Windows. I loved the fact that you could toggle to see which files on the server had changed compared to those in your local directory, right in the dual pane, without attempting any sync - they are just highlighted, based on file contents.

Having been a long term user of Filzezilla (having moved from CyberDuck and then Transmit), I found myself hunting around ftp clients again and came across Yummy ftp. I am liking the trial very much, but is there a way of doing the above within the program?

TIA

Right now, such a capability isn't there, but it sounds like something I could add! :)

You can use the "Preview" option in the Sync feature to get a list of what has changed without actually changing anything. That's as close as I can get at the moment.

Just found that - and your method is very sweet, so you probably have a new customer. The toggle in smartFTP which highlights the files is an awesome feature though, so worth checking out and potentially "borrowing". Thanks for the quick reply! :)

Great! :)

That feature definitely sounds very nifty - it's added to my To Do list. Thanks for the feedback!
