Where did the application go?
« on: November 24, 2006, 07:07:43 PM »
I bought the Yummy FTP program a couple of months ago and all of a sudden when I try to launch it from my dock, all I get is a question mark. I can't find the application. And Yummy's support page doesn't list an e-mail address or a phone number for help. I don't want to set up the internal e-mail program on my computer just to e-mail their support department. Why can't thy just list their e-mail instead of embed a link to "the support team."

Someone please help me. I paid money for this program; I should be able to use it. My e-mail is jabaldwin22@gmail.com if someone from the support department can e-mail me. Thank you.

The email address is:  support at yummysoftware dot com  (replace the 'at' and 'dot', and remove spaces).  If you click on "The Support Team" then that should set up your mail client with the correct address. However, posting in this forum always gets a quick reply. Well usually! I happen to know the developer is away for the weekend so you may not hear anything until Monday.

But to answer your problem it sounds as if the dock has lost the connection to the application itself. So the application has been deleted, moved or renamed.  Drag the Yummy icon out of the dock and release -- this deletes the link. Now from the Finder use Cmd-F to find Yummy. If it can be found then double click it to open. Once open, its icon will reappear in the dock: right-click (or control-click) on that icon and chose "Keep in dock".

If Find cannot find the application then it has been deleted so you will need to reinstall it: maybe you will need to go to the Yummy website to download the latest version. Once installed, follow the dock instructions above.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to spacific for helping out here - much appreciated. I have indeed been away for the weekend, otherwise I would have replied immediately.

spacific is right on the money - if the Dock displays a ? then it means it can't find Yummy FTP.

I've seen a few cases of this, where people have not dragged the Yummy FTP icon to their Applications folder to install it, but have instead dragged it to the Dock and have therefore launched it directly from the mounted disk image - obviously, as soon as the computer is restarted or the disk image is unmounted, then the Dock can't find Yummy ... because it hasn't actually been installed!

Anyway, I'll email you to see how you're getting on.

Hi JD,

Could I suggest that Yummy itself helps out here. If it finds that it has been run from a 'volume' that starts with "Yummy FTP" then it puts up an appropriate instruction to move it onto a permanent volume?  Just a thought but it would be a nice touch.
