Question on security and use
« on: December 05, 2006, 09:18:16 AM »
Hi! I'm new to Yummy and using a FTP client. I have a question regarding a part of the writeup on the app, where it says  "firewalls are traversed with ease..." etc.

Don't laugh... but by using this, does that mean that contents of my computer are at risk or open? I don't want either myself or another to be without security here.

Also, I am beginning a website so won't be using Yummy just yet to upload and manage it. However, is this app able to replace my use of Safari when I download purchased items (particularly ones where the servers are bogged down due to high demand for this new release), etc. or is it just as easy to do it the regular way?

I guess I'm surprised to learn how many people are using these... either they all have websites or I've been way out of the loop!

Thanks for your help in introducing me to the world of an FTP client.

Ok, I stopped laughing now ;D Just kidding...

No, using Yummy in no way undermines your security. The statement simply means that Yummy will be able to connect to servers through firewalls easily because it has an automatic connection method selection - usually this is a manual configuration.

You can use Yummy to download files from FTP servers if there are FTP links on a web page, but normally these are not FTP links and you should use Safari.

By far the most common use of Yummy FTP is for maintaining a web site, as you suspected. Just about everyone has a web site these days...
