"Edit With..." icon/pulldown menu in toolbar?
« on: January 19, 2007, 10:44:47 AM »
Would it be possible to add an "Edit With..." icon/pulldown menu in toolbar? I find that more and more I am switching back and forth between BBEdit and TextMate and the right-click contextual menu is a little awkward since the "Edit With..." option is listed at the very bottom of the contextual menu.

I'd love to see an icon/menu similar to the Favorites and History icons that are in the toolbar, i.e., when clicked a menu of defined editors would open for selection.

thanks!

Sure, I could add one, but...

Are the keyboard shortcuts for each additional editor no good?

Ctrl-Cmd-1 -> Extra Editor 1
Ctrl-Cmd-2 -> Extra Editor 2

etc.

... or are you (like me) averse to using the keyboard when there is perfectly good mouse right there? ;)

The keyboard shortcuts are only shown in the File menu from the Main Menu, not the contextual one. Maybe that's why you didn't realize they were there? Note that you can add the default editor to this list too - Yummy doesn't prohibit that.

yeah, i've been using that but for some reason TextMate comes up as editor #4, so I have to do an awkward jazz chord involving 3 fingers to choose TextMate. Is there a way to re-order the list of editors? Or better yet, is there a way to change the key command to Opt-Cmd-1 so that the Opt and Cmd keys can be pressed simultaneously using just the thumb (thereby only requiring two fingers instead of 3)?

Hmm, yes I see how that can be awkward. I will change the combo to Opt-Cmd for the next beta.

Yummy stores aliases to the editor applications in a preference folder named Other Editors (inside the Yummy FTP folder) and builds an alphabetical list of them for the menu. You could therefore re-order TextMate to a higher position in the list by adding a space character at the front of the TextMate alias name in the Other Editors folder. It works.

The toolbar menu would be nice, I guess ;)
