A couple of weeks of using Yummy FTP
« on: February 18, 2007, 10:03:08 PM »
Well, I was looking for a good FTP program and it looks like I finally found it! Yummy FTP... I tried many competitors, but nothing can beat this incredible piece of software. It has all features I need, plus some more I never saw before until I installed Yummy FTP. Auto route (man, this saves a lot of my time!!!), Dual browse (wow, this feature rules!) and many many more I can't live without now. And last but not least, it's nice! I have tried tons of FTP programs before, some looked good but the functionality or features were bad ... and on the contrary...
There's not so much things I miss in Yummy FTP, but anyhow:
1. I couln't find a way how to delete files (in YFTP) on my local server/machine. I know this isn't a file manager, but sometimes I would need it.
2. Some tab system would be cool, instead of multiple opened windows...

Thanks for this great program! $25 was very good investment! :)

In response to your first comment, just right-click the files (local or remote) and select Delete from the contextual menu, or select the files you want to delete and click on the trash icon in the toolbar.

... thanks, but that's the problem :) It doesn't work here. Right click or Command-delete.. Nothing.. I can delete files from the remote server, but not from local...

Odd - I don't have any other reports of problems deleting local items. Is there something unusual about the items you're trying to delete, or where they are located? Are you using version 1.5.3 of Yummy FTP? What type of Mac are you using and which version of OS X?

Anyway, aside from this issue, I'm really happy to hear you like everything else :)

Thanks for reply JD!
I don't think there's something unusual with the local files I try to delete. They're usually in the sites folder but I tried (with no success) everywhere else: desktop, FW disks, home folder etc... I can't delete anything. When I use right click nothing happens, when I click trash icon nothing happens, when I'm using Command-delete, then File menu 'blinks', but file or folder isn't deleted. Even the dragging on the trash icon doesn't work :)
Deleting on the remote servers works great...
I have Yummy FTP 1.5.3 installed on MacBook Pro 17", 2.16 GHz, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

And yeah.. this is the one and only problem I have with YFTP :)

Hmm... I have found it.. Running PathFinder is the problem... When it's running then nothing on the local side works... When I quit PathFinder everything's great!
So.. any suggestions? :)

Aha! Tell PathFinder not to quit the Finder. I believe there is an option for this in the General tab of the Preferences.

Yummy actually 'talks' directly with the Finder to perform many local file operations. If it isn't running then you'll get nothing happening.

Did you re-launch Finder? Just click on its icon in the Dock - you can close any windows it opens and then just leave it running in the background... PathFinder works just fine in this mode, and with Finder still available in the background, so does Yummy :)

Ah! Ok then... cool!  ;D

For what it's worth, I know someone at Cocoatech, and I'll be asking them to support the same API that Finder does as a feature request. This will enable Yummy to 'talk' directly with PathFinder if it is running.

Wow, one would have thought this occurred to them a long time ago!

Yummy uses an AE mechanism, correct?
