« on: April 17, 2007, 10:50:05 AM »
I want to upload password protected files so that my customers can download my products. Is there a way to do that on Yummy?

thanks!

Yummy FTP doesn't provide a way to password protect files, however there are other applications which can do that for you - Stuffit Deluxe is an example, I think.

Once you have password protected files, you can use Yummy to upload them to your web site. If you give your customers a website url for them to download the file, then that will work out just fine. For example: If you upload to the root level of your server (where your index file is) then you can simply give the url :

http://www.yourwebsitenamehere.com/thenameofthefilehere

or if you put the files into a folder, for example named "customers" then you would give a url:

http://www.yourwebsitenamehere.com/customers/thenameofthefilehere

Hope that helps

That brings up another question that could be of some interest to some. Actual document files can also be protected via a password (other than archives containing multiple files). Say it's a tiff image, or a .mov movie file. Both of these CAN be "previewed" in YummyFTP (not so sure about YummyRecipies). If a password protected file like these are selected for previewing, does Yummy provide a mechanism for entering that password and then allowing viewing of said file?

No, there's no support for that. I guess if I integrated support for the Stuffit Engine it would be possible, but of course limited to Stuffit archives only.
