Bookmarks and Favorites
« on: July 17, 2007, 07:33:23 PM »
Hi, Jason.

Ok, I think I've read most every post on bookmarks and favorites. I understand that bookmarks are server connections and that favorites are particular folders on a remote server. Favorites are also per bookmark. In fact, when the focus is on the local file viewer, the favorites aren't even available. So far so good with the exception that this functionality distinction appears to be missing in the documentation.

When I first tried a bookmark, I was confused when clicking on it didn't bring me back exactly to where I was (on both sides) when I set the bookmark. A little pecking around and I found that I can edit the bookmark local and remote folders to get me that. Very good.

So here is my question: why doesn't Add Bookmark save the local and remote folder at the time of its creation -- a sort of snapshot of my working environment? I looked for a preference but could not find it. Creating a bookmark then editing it immediately after to use the exact folder locations that I'm already looking at seems to be avoidable. Perhaps this functionality is present and I am missing it?

Thanks in advance. I just purchased your software today after using for a few weeks and even with the above, it's still the most elegant FTP software I've used so far.

Hi, Andre.

When the local file viewer is focused, you can create and access favorites to the local file system. These local favorites are stored per Bookmark also. Unfortunately, the documentation does have a few holes - favorites is one of them. Sorry about that!

Add Bookmark does already save the currently displayed local and remote folders when creating the Bookmark. What I think you're expecting is for it to record the folder hierarchy that you had open - it doesn't do that. The folder name that is displayed above the listing (in a popup menu) is the folder which is saved to the Bookmark - that is the current working folder.

Anyway, I'm very happy to hear of your purchase. Thanks! :)

Hi, Jason You're right...I thought I found a case where the local and remote folders weren't being stored with the bookmark. THanks!
