AFP Connection warning on launch outside home network
« on: November 27, 2007, 09:47:10 AM »
Since upgrading to 1.7, I am now experiencing a warning/error window when launching Yummy FTP when on another network outside my home network. It tells me it's trying to look up my desktop computer. If I connect to the home computer, it still does not alleviate this problem.

I basically cannot use Yummy FTP as it seems to want to load something it thinks is stored on the desktop computer.

I tried moving the Yummy prefs to the desktop but this didn't help.

I think you have one or more aliases inside your Bookmarks, Recent Connections, or Other Editors folders that point to your home computer and Yummy is asking the OS to resolve them, producing this warning.

Take a look in:

Mac HD -> Users -> yourname -> Library -> Preferences -> Yummy FTP

Inside there you will see the Bookmarks, Recent Connections and Other Editors folders. While Yummy FTP is not running, examine the contents of both those folders and move any aliases to the Trash, then start Yummy FTP again.

Aha, it seems the Recent Connections was the culprit. Most like there were FTP aliases in project folders which got synced with .Mac or via ChronoSync, and I must have clicked on the versions from the desktop Mac at home. Or perhaps syncing overwrote the laptop files with the desktop version and when at home it resolved them to Yummy FTP on the home Mac?

Just trying to figure out how to avoid this in the future.

Thanks!

Glad you found it :)

For the future I would advise to simply exclude the Recent Connections folder from any future backups.

I think what happened was that when syncing a project folder, the FTP alias was synced, and then when accessing that link from the laptop, it was somehow related to the desktop - perhaps because I created it there? Or is that just impossible?

I would assume the FTP alias would just open with the local copy of YFTP.

I don't sync the actual "recent connections' folder, so not sure how they got linked to the desktop machine.

I'm really not sure what has happened - I've no idea what a 'project' is in this context either, so I can't really even make a guess. What alias did you remove that fixed the problem?

As far as projects, just folders for clients with all the files for a project, inclucing an FTP alias to a folder for them on the server.

I deleted all the "recent connections" aliases in the folder you specified earlier.

Yes, I was just sort of hoping you might have tried removing one alias at a time until the problem went away - it would have been a clue how this happened. Never mind, at least the problem is gone :)

If this happens again, please let me know.

Ah, you didn't mention anything about deleting one-by-one.

I will keep an eye out for it happening again and post back if I notice anything.

Thanks again for the quick support!

Yea, my bad - I should have thought of and suggested that beforehand.
