Shortcuts for some UI components
« on: October 15, 2008, 12:23:10 PM »
It would be nice to see some shortcuts for a few commonly used UI components. The favourites and history menus come to mind immediately. I access these two extremely frequently, and also find that a good 90% of my mouse usage in YummyFTP is related to these two menus. Adding shortcuts to pop them up would reduce dependency upon the pointer dramatically.

Do you mean to popup the main menubar, or the toolbar variants? I'm not sure about the former, but focusing on the toolbar icon-menus might work, in a similar way that the search box can get 'focus' with the Alt-CMD-F shortcut

Yes, that is what I meant, the toolbar pop-up menu. Practical example would be the project list hot-key in Taskpaper. You can press Cmd-L to enact the menu as if it were mouse clicked, and the proceed to type prefix letters to jump to a spot on the list. There is no need to hot-key the items in that menu since prefixing is a fast way of accessing list items in most cases.
