Move files from one directory to another
« on: August 21, 2012, 12:07:02 PM »
I need to move a lot of files and directories from one deeper directory to a higher one - e.g:

www.blah.com/public_html/test/

to

www.blah.com/public_html/

- is there a ftp-command or a function to manage that ?

Yes, there are two ways:  Drag and drop or the Move command

Drag and drop:

- Navigate to /public_html/

If using Column View...

- Click the 'test' folder so the directory contents are displayed to the right
- Select all files & folders in the 'test' folder using Select All from the Edit menu
- Click and drag the selected items onto the left-most column so it hilites and release the mouse

If using List View...

- Click the 'test' folder disclosure triangle to show the directory contents
- Select all the files and folders within the 'test' folder by clicking and dragging with the mouse (ensure to click into empty space, not text or icon)
- Click and drag the selected items onto the List column header area so the list hilites and release the mouse

Move command:

- Navigate to /public_html/
- Select all files & folders in the 'test' folder using Select All from the Edit menu
- Choose the Move command from the File menu
- Remove the 'test' part from the displayed path so you get /public_html/ and then click Move

Hope that helps.
