Cannot set permissions on certain files
« on: May 12, 2017, 08:33:50 PM »
Hello.

I don't know why, but I cannot change permissions on some files on my FTP server.

I get a generic error.

Thank you.

Is that the actual message from the server? If so, I guess you'll need to seek assistance from the server administrator.

I'm still investigating the issue...

I'm getting this error only for files that have a blank space in their name. Apparently, I can't find a way to change this permissions (my host doesn't provide SSH access...).

That's a big clue. Is there a chance I can connect to your server to test? Contact me via email if so.

Sadly, it's a sever hosting some code made for my university, so I cannot give you the access. We could exchange a couple mails, if you want to, so I can make some tests.

Thank you.

Ok, understood.

Can you try sending a Raw Command in this format:

SITE CHMOD 'nameoffilehere' 777

.. basically I want to see if the server will accept the command if the name is quoted. If so, I can add an exception to re-try a failure with a name that has a space by quoting the name.

Ok that's a shame.. it seems the server has a bug in this area. Why type of server is it? You could show the intro part of the Transcript (see File -> Show Transcript) which might give a clue as to the sever software.

It looks like the first command is unknown, and the second gives error anyway.

Hmm, looks like AlterVista have their own in-house developed FTP server software and it has failed to correctly parse commands. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do - it's a bug with the server.

Meh, I will strongly suggest my professor to change host.

Thank you for your support :)
