Title: My trial period seems to be about 30 seconds long
Post by: khiltd on July 08, 2006, 06:53:09 AM
Before today I had never even heard of Yummy FTP, but I downloaded it and liked the fact that it was speedy and allowed me to change the owner and group of files on my server when logged in as root so I decided to play with it a little more and see if it was worth the money. Unfortunately, I am told that my trial period has expired after less than a minute.

I am the only person with access to this machine, and there has never been a single piece of Yummy Software installed on it at any point in the past, so I'm more than a little baffled by this one. Deleting preferences files and folders helps nothing.

Sorry to hear you're having this problem. Yummy FTP checks whether the clock has been modified since you installed the trial, to counteract those attempting to reset the trial period. If this is detected then the trial ends almost immediately. The downside of this check is that if you have a defective battery in your Mac, or the clock was legitimately modified sufficiently then a false positive can be registered. Does this sounds like your situation?

No. There is nothing wrong with my battery, though I'm sure the automatic clock setting via NTP feature built into the OS has modified my clock settings at some point in time. If that's enough to break it then you've got some pretty badly designed code there, as I'd venture a good 99% of all users with internet access make use of this feature.

No, that NTP setting won't have any effect in this case, so that can't be it. I'll contact you off-line with a link to a test version of Yummy to try to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for your patience
