Title: Issue with PRET? Maybe?
Post by: gurukaos on October 11, 2006, 07:04:52 PM
Not sure if it is related to the PRET setting but when I connect to an FTPd (DrFTPd)  that is running PRET some strange things happen.

When connected it lists the “/” folder just fine, and it shows all folders within the “/” folder. When you enter one of the folders within the root folder, it lists all the sub folders in that folder.
Example: /Folder/
At this point when you try to go into the next level folder
Example: /Folder/subfolder/
just hangs, and says
"Fetching file/folder listing..."
Item :"subfolder "
Also the blue bar just sits and keeps (scrolling?)

It also gives all these crazy (Japanese’s?) charters when you select the "view transcript"
Yet it is set to Default Encoding " Unicode (UTF-8)
I can’t tell if it has an error or not, due to all the Japanese charters.

The bookmark is also setup with Secure (FTPS SSL/TLS), and use FTP PASV.

Now the ftp works fine with Captain FTP, as well as FlashFXP on windows, so I don't think its a server issue.

Any help would be great.

After playing around with it for a little bit I noticed something

If the folder has files in the folder it seems to hang, but if it just has another folder or nothing at all, it works fine.

Example:

/folder/sub/ if sub has nothing in the folder or just a folder to sub2 it works as long as sub2 has no files in it.

/folder/sub/sub2/ if sub2 has nothing in the folder, or just has folder(s) to sub3a, sub3b, sub3c it will allow you to go to any of them as long as there are no files in them. (must be empty or have other folders, no files)

And if any of the folders have files in them, it seems to hang

This seems to be something to do with PRET since PRET puts files on different servers that are connected with the FTPd.

Are you able to test the same server with standard FTP, but with PRET still enabled? If so, do you get the same results?

when I connect it gives an error "must use secure connection"

Soo I guess the server needs SSL/TLS. I did try another SSL server and I did get the same resultes.

Ok playing with it some more.. heh sorry for all the posts

It seems that when it errors it may not be what files are in the directory but that the directory has like a message when you enter it???

Example:

250 Directory changed to /folder/sub1/
CWD CD2
250- ⁄ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒψ
250- ≥                                                                              ≥
250- ≥                            Welcome to folder                             ≥
250- ≥                                                                              ≥
250- √ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ₯
250- √ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ¬ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ₯
250- ≥    --- Current people viewing folder ---                    ≥       ≥         ≥            ≥         ≥
250- ≥  #1  test          @ testing          ≥   1F ≥ 100.00MB ≥   1.00MB/s ≥    100% ≥
250- √ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ≈ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ≈ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ≈ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ≈ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ₯
250 Directory changed to /folder/sub1/sub2

(and that is it, nothing else)

This is shown in the “FTP Transcript” log, but when you select view transcript under “view” all you get in the Japanese characters….. ?

So I am wonder if the characters used in the message, is causing it to get stuck when trying to enter that folder?

Hmm, the message shouldn't have any effect.

Would it be possible for me to connect to the server and see this for myself? I would most likely be able to solve the problem in a matter of minutes if I can see it first hand in my debugging environment. Email me at support at yummysoftware dot com

Thanks!

It might be that the encoding for this server isn't UTF-8 and as such it is causing a problem for Yummy.

Try setting the encoding to ISO 8859-1 in your Bookmark and see how it behaves after that.

If you still have difficulties then I'll really need to connect myself.

I set it to Western (ISO Latin 1).. I assume that is the same thing.

I don't get any funky Japanese characters anymore, that is a good thing, and I do see the 250- message come up in Transcript View now..

But it still just sits there after that

Is anyone else having trouble with PRET? I tested some other sites that are none PRET and they all seem to work ok…. So I don’t know.

Sadly I don't run the FTPd so I can’t get you access. Wish this could get fixed to... I really like this software.

I don’t want to use windows, and captain ftp is well just ok.. :P

 :(

Ok, I'll send you the download link for the next beta build when it's ready and we'll take it from there. I've fixed a fair number of bugs since v1.5.1 so who knows... maybe 1.5.2 will do the trick. If not, then I'll investigate in other ways ;)

Thanks for sticking with me!

Thanks! I would love to test the new version!

And no problem.. Sorry I didn't answer faster... You know how work goes sometimes.. :)

Hi

First of all i want to say that i really love Yummy, I just installed it a few hours ago but I already like it more than transmit :)

Unfortunately I have the same problem as gurukaos. The listing hangs when the server (in this case a glftpd-server) sends specific info from the mp3-contents in that folder to the client (this info is stored in a .message file inside the folder, which glftpd reads).

As a comparison I'll post the logs from both Transmit and Yummy from the point where i try to enter the specific folder.

Transmit:

Cmd: CWD Test-folder
250:

                                  I D 3 - T A G
      +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
        Artist : Test
        Album  : Test
        Genre  : Pop                                Rate  : 214kbit/sec
        Tracks : 13                                 Year  : 2006
        Encoder: LAME3.90.                          Preset: APS
      +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
     CWD command successful.
Cmd: PASV
227: Entering Passive Mode (213,230,209,32,185,189)
Cmd: LIST
150: Opening BINARY mode data connection for directory listing using SSL/TLS.
226:  [Ul: 6364.4MB] [Dl: 45515.4MB] [Speed: 6.94K/s] [Free: 96090MB]
[Section: DEFAULT] [Credits: 271.7MB] [Ratio: Unlimited]
total 126926
-rw-rw-r--   1 501      upload        422 Sep 15 16:03 test-file.mp3

Yummy:

CWD Test-folder
250-
250-                             I D 3 - T A G
250- +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
250-   Artist : Test
250-   Album  : Test
250-   Genre  : Pop                                Rate  : 214kbit/sec
250-   Tracks : 13                                 Year  : 2006
250-   Encoder: LAME3.90.                          Preset: APS
250- +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
250 CWD command successful.

And here it hangs....

Thanks in advance for looking at it and hopefully it can be fixed so that i can drop transmit and move to Yummy ;)

PS
using the latest version (1.5.3)

Hi there and thank you for your nice comments ;D

It does seem that there is a similar problem here. Maybe the PRET command was a complete red herring!

I'll do some investigations and report back.

Sorry I haven't answered in a while (sometimes you can't control life), but I was wondering if their has been any progress on this? I love yummy and I really want it to work. I know that last beta you e-mailed me didn't work, anything since then?

I didn't find anything specific to the PRET command. I did find (and fix) the issue which caused the transcript to display weird characters, although I'm unsure whether this would have any effect on the PRET functionality. I think the best thing to do is for you to try out the latest beta build and we'll take it from there. I'll email you the download link.

Thanks for getting back to me!

HELP!

I need someone who has access to a PRET-enabled server to lend me a test account to fix this - I can't find any problems and nobody (so far) has allowed me access to their server to see the problem for myself.

Thanks!

Jason, how do I know if my server is PRET-enabled? If it is, I'll happily set up an account for you.

Thank you for trying to help :)

I very much doubt that you have a PRET-enabled server. If you did, I think you'd know it!

A quick Google turned up this http://www.drftpd.org/index.php/Distributed_PASV which should help explain the reason for PRET and how it is used.

After skimming the content at that site, I'd have to say that I also very much doubt it. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, and good luck. =]

I do believe I have found this problem at long last!  :)

Anyone who is interested, please contact me for a beta build which contains the fix

... and the funny thing is, it has nothing to do with PRET  :D

Thanks for the confirmation! (and your patience!!)
