Title: Getting Watcher to work
Post by: noelmcg on January 22, 2015, 03:41:37 PM
Hi there,

As the title suggests I'm trying to get Watcher up and running and working correctly. Have copied over bookmarks from YummyFTP and 'checked connection set local + remote folders', everything seems to look fine.

I set schedules to run, 'Synchronize: Update Mac',  but nothing seems to happen. I get a waiting till time, it reaches the time but doesn't do anything.

Have checked/unchecked Compare sizes but that doesn't seem to change anything.

If I restart FTP Watcher, the status of the watchers are all 'stopped', even if they should be about to start?

Hopefully I'll be able to get this to work as this functionality would be great for me, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious! And yes, I do have Watchers switched to 'On'!

Also, once it works, does the program have to constantly be on?

Cheers

Noel

Hi Noel,

Click the top left button on the toolbar - it's the On/Off switch. I should make it clearer.. my fault!

You need to leave the app running for the Watchers to run.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason

I have watchers turned on (I did miss it initially though!), that doesn't appear to be the issue.

The problem is that you (accidentally?) forced the creation of folders inside the Watcher status window, I imagine by adding the folders directly into the Yummy FTP Watcher application support folder, as there is no support for creating folders and organising Watchers how you have done.

If you remove the folders and just have Watchers in the listing then it will work as expected.

I copied the folders from YummyFTP over to Watcher. Have deleted them now, but still not quite working correctly.

Have copied over the bookmarks individually and they just don't quite work correctly. It says they are watching / waiting ... then they don't do anything. If I hit ReScan, they work fine. Is it advisable not to do so?

Have tried adding the bookmarks manually, as opposed to copying over from yummyFTP, but I keep getting connection errors? Have checked, and double checked, the login details. The exact same as my YummyFTP bookmarks, they just won't seem to work?

Ouch! Don't do that! :o

While the Bookmark files share some commonality, they are not the same, or interchangeable.

Please re-create the Watchers from scratch after deleting the existing ones then quit and re-launch. I suspect that will clear things up :)

Hi Jason,

Sorry to bother you again. I'm still having a little bit of difficulty getting the watcher to work correctly.

I have added watchers, as per above, correctly - i.e. not dragged over bookmarks, watchers are on etc ...

They run fine when I  hit re-scan, but they don't work when they run automatically? I have had the watcher setup to run in the morning and its not picking up on changed files, if I manually hit rescan it will?

I've also set the watcher to run, and observed. It says it is watching > waiting > , but it doesn't actually seem to scan, just skips back to watching?

Please email me with screenshots of the Watcher Status window with the Watchers running, and also of each tab off the Watcher Setup window.
