Title: NEW to YUMMY and have a Question with Slow downloads and FTP login Post by: sarah100 on November 09, 2006, 07:54:11 PM I am new to YUMMY, so forgive me if my questions have already been anwsered or have little to do with YUMMY and more to do with my service provider. My first problem, is that it is taking an insane amount of time to download files off another person's FTP site and I am talking hours. How should I go about figuring out excactly what the problem is and how to fix it? As for my second question, how do I use YUMMY to set up my FTP stuff so that if I
give my FTP address to clients to download my images, how can I give them access to only one folder and not the whole system? Thanks for you help. My first problem, is that it is taking an insane amount of time to download files off another person's FTP site and I am talking hours. How should I go about figuring out excactly what the problem is and how to fix it? Most internet users have a slow upload transfer rate (as compared with the download transfer rate), so when you download files from another person's FTP site, your download rate can't exceed its upload rate. I mean if the site is on a private computer. Most of the time, professional FTP sites have much higher transfer rates. As for my second question, how do I use YUMMY to set up my FTP stuff so that if I give my FTP address to clients to download my images, how can I give them access to only one folder and not the whole system? Thanks for you help. I'm afraid you need a FTP server software for that. Yummy FTP is a FTP client.A FTP client is used for connecting to another person's FTP site. A FTP server is used for creating a FTP site. Pure FTPd Manager is a good and simple one to use. :) Title: Re: NEW to YUMMY and have a Question with Slow downloads and FTP login Post by: JD on November 10, 2006, 05:14:10 AM Old Salt is exactly right :)
Thanks for answering! Title: Re: NEW to YUMMY and have a Question with Slow downloads and FTP login Post by: paulc on November 13, 2006, 12:59:25 PM If it's images, you'd be better off with simple image galleries posted to web space.
Do you have a web hosting deal? The value in such things are amazing... I have a domain, web space, e-mail with my own domain, and a bunch of other things for about 10 bucks/month. I have a very simple work-flow process that easily creates web photo galleries, that's how I give access to my images.
