Title: Edit always inactive
Post by: cric on February 21, 2006, 02:56:13 AM
Hi
I am absolutly new to yummy but I have to say: great app!
As every newbie there are some questions. The first is concerning the "edit" feature:
I don't know if I have done something wrong but I can't get the "Edit" menu entry to activate for any file. I have set the default editor to BBEdit (which I have) and also tried several "suffix mapping" options (e.g. css -> CSSEdit). But all I can do is select "Edit with..." and "Quick Edit". Is there anything I have to configure or I have maybe forgotten to make the simple "Edit" enty work?

Hi and welcome!

Usually, the problem with the Edit option being disabled is because the default editor app cannot be found. Even though you have selected BBEdit from the popup menu in the Preferences, Yummy will ask Mac OS X where BBEdit is installed - if the OS says that BBEdit isn't installed then the Edit option will be disabled, and this is where the problem starts... The OS can 'lie' about whether an application is installed or not if the app is not 'trusted' by the OS. This is a newish security feature of Mac OS X.

To get around the problem, try the following:

1) Quit Yummy FTP
2) Make sure your BBEdit is installed in the Applications folder of your Mac OS X system disk.
3) Launch BBEdit, create a new document then save it to the Desktop. Quit BBEdit, then double click the document saved on the Desktop to launch BBEdit again.
4) Launch Yummy FTP

The Edit option should now be available.

If you continue to have difficulties, please contact me via email (support at yummysoftware dot com) so that we can discuss the matter further.

-Jason

Thanks JD
Everything works fine now. CSS Edit also works, even I haven't made any changes to this.

GREAT!

Editing with CSS Edit via Suffix Mapping changes would have also been disabled because the default editor could not be found. This is kind of a bug, since it shouldn't really need the default editor to be present in order to edit like this, but that's how it is right now. However, once you have your configuration set correctly, everything falls into place, as you have seen :)
