Title: Slow drawing of icons under Leopard Post by: spacific on February 29, 2008, 02:34:49 PM I have recently moved to Leopard and notice that the drawing of correct icons for each file-type in the file listing can be very slow (well, a few seconds). It seems strange as it was instantaneous under Panther. Even when all the files in the current folder are of the same type (e.g. a list of PDFs), the drawing is slow, as if the system is having to extract each icon separately from some database. If you scroll down a long list then each new set of files shown produces the same behaviour. But then scrolling up is OK -- it now knows what to draw. Weird!
Is this a Leopard issue? as I know you are using the OS list manager. Title: Re: Slow drawing of icons under Leopard Post by: JD on March 01, 2008, 04:49:00 AM It's using Quick Look previews for the icons by default. Un-check the 'Quick Look icons' checkbox in the Interface panel of the Preferences to revert to the previous behavior.
I'm surprised it's so slow. It's meant to be 'quick' look after all. On my Mac it's not a problem, so I don't know why it is so slow on yours. Do you have a really old Mac? Title: Re: Slow drawing of icons under Leopard Post by: spacific on March 01, 2008, 06:30:39 AM aha! That did it, thanks.
No, I have a new Mac Mini and I've also seen the same behaviour on a new iMac. I don't know what Quick Look preview are in the context of drawing icons ... but not to worry, I'm a happy chappy now.
