Title: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: tu11ym0n on May 25, 2006, 11:35:20 PM hey there -
just got the email that 1.5 was released and downloaded it. congrats on such a fine job! one thing I noticed with the new release is that the "Icons reflect permissions" preference seems to be buggy. Starting with the 1.5 release I just downloaded, when I log into my site the icons indicate that all the files and folders are "locked" - even though they aren't since I am the owner and I am able to edit/modify them. But somehow the wrong icons are being displayed in the window. Anyone else having this problem? Obviously one needs to have the "Icons reflect permissions" preference checked... Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: JD on May 26, 2006, 06:09:07 AM Hey :)
That's interesting about the icon permissions display. paulc brought it up as an issue a couple of days ago, but I didn't get a chance to check it out before 1.5 was released. I'm surprised it works any differently than the 1.1.5 release - I certainly didn't change anything in that area at all! If I find something, I'll include it in the inevitable 1.5.1 update Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: tu11ym0n on May 26, 2006, 03:40:40 PM FWIW, the bug seems to appear only when the "Numeric Permissions, Owner/Group" is checked (in addition to "Icons reflect permissions" being checked).
In other words, if I uncheck the "Numeric Permissions, Owner/Group" preference, the icons are correct. But if I check "Numeric Permissions, Owner/Group", most if not all the icons display as "locked". hope that helps... Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Fixed! Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: paulc on May 27, 2006, 05:46:25 PM Not really... I've always had numeric off, my intro to Unix permission was the traditional alpha designators. Oh, I'm waiting for the beta because I tried turning Numeric on and off and I get the numeric codes either way.
Argh, I suppose I need to try and plist toss... much later as the stomach is growling and the bod is hurting... Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: JD on May 28, 2006, 08:06:48 AM Weird. Everything works fine here.
Let me know if dumping the plist file sorts it out. The icon display bug is definitely only when the Numeric Permissions option is enabled. Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: paulc on May 28, 2006, 12:54:12 PM Oh it gets stranger... dumping the plist seems NOT to change the behavior of Numeric permissions displaying on my server-side display even with the perf off! Something really subtle is going on here, I hope you like mysteries!
Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: JD on May 28, 2006, 01:42:05 PM Take a look in your Transcript - does the server supply numerical permissions?
Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: paulc on May 29, 2006, 11:35:03 AM Hmmm, yes it does. Alpha and numeric.
A good assumption (as I don't control the server, it's my web hosting place) is that I can not control this. I had gone back to my previous plist as I wanted to "document" how all my prefs were set up. The "wrong icon" is back. I'll go and toss it again, and re-set my prefs as I had before. I'll leave Numeric in Yummy off. Ahhh, something else IS going on. I tossed the old plist and manually recreated my prefs as before; now I have incorrect icons. If I leave all prefs at default, I see correct icons. Is it better I send you screen caps of each section of the prefs or the whole plist? Ok, now I see better; prefs don't matter; the default prefs have Icons Reflect Permission off. So I was lulled into think that fresh prefs solved the issue; they don't. All I have to do is change that one pref to on and I get the wrong icons. Soprry to be a pain about this... Title: Re: icons reflect permissions bug in 1.5? Post by: JD on May 29, 2006, 02:04:39 PM Ah, well the alpha and numeric representation in the listing is non-standard, and probably confusing Yummy.
Please send me an FTP Transcript of your session once you've seen incorrect icons. I can then examine the listing data to see what's going on. Thanks!
