Can't connect...
« on: December 18, 2007, 09:58:27 AM »

Curious if it's possible to have a slightly more informative error message when one can NOT connect to the server one is trying to. Along the lines of things LIKE:

no such server
bad username
bad password

"User xxxx cannot login" is coming directly from the server. Unfortunately, server messages can be a little cryptic.

I would assume that your username or password are not being accepted.

The assumption is that one of them isn't being accepted... just trying to see if there's a way to KNOW exactly which one is the sticking point.

No there is no way to know. For example, I often see that servers accept any username, even invalid ones, but don't report any problems until the password has been sent as well.
