Conflict Panel doesn't show when Yummy Not Focused
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:38:12 PM »

Hey JD, ltns

If Yummy is not focused and I drag a file from it to my Finder or from Finder to Yummy, the dock icon bounces notifying me of a conflict but doesn't show the panel until I focus Yummy.  Before the beta upgrade it used to display the panel fine regardless of focus.  I believe this is related to my "Capture Initial Click" issue I had when I first starting using Yummy that you previously fixed.

How have you been? Smiley I'm still working on the password sync system.  Been a rough 2008 Cheesy

I'm using the Yummy 1.7.3b5 on Mac 10.5.6 Intel\

EDIT: Also, how are you coming on my request to add the "Edit New Empty File" to the context menu when you click a file? ( http://www.yummysoftware.com/forum/index.php/topic,681.msg2829.html )

Hi Jace Smiley  You too ...

It's the side effect of a workaround I made for a bug in Apple's Spaces feature. It will only happen if you have Spaces enabled, though. aqDo you have Spaces enabled?

Even though I want to like Spaces, every time I've switched it on I ended up turning it off again because it just got far too annoying in the end.  Unfortunately, some of the bugs in Spaces will never be fixed because of fundamental design flaws. I guess Apple won't rewrite it...

My last 6 - 7 months have been tough too. Not much progress on my end either as a result. Here's to a productive 2009! Grin

Sorry about the 'Edit' feature request - I forgot all about it, but I should get it into the next beta no problem Smiley

Yes of course I have Spaces enabled Cheesy.  I like it quite a bit.  The #1 problem is the auto switch, which you can disable in the preferences.  Once that's off, you can open mulitple Firefox windows in different spaces without jumping back.  I only have horizontal spaces to limit the confusion of up/down/left/right.  I mapped my left tilt on my scrollwheel to change spaces so it's very quick for me to cycle through my 3 spaces.  I'm a web developer so when I get asked to work on another project for a second or to check something out, I switch to an empty space so I don't clutter my current working one.  Other than that I don't really use them unless it's to hide the naughty pics from the girlfriend. "Hey honey, whatcha doin?" ~tilt switch~ "oh nothing, just working on this code here.. " "oh ok honey, I'm going to go make some dinner" "ok baby, have fun" ~tilt switch~ .. Cheesy

Ok  Cheesy

I guess I'll have to add a preference or something, as the work around does stop a really annoying bug, but only in certain configurations evidently.

What about spaces don't you like? Or is this from a programming point of view? (just curious)

There is not much of a programming point of view because in their no-so-great wisdom, Apple provided no API for Spaces. That was pretty dumb, IMO. Same is true of QuickLook - no API for it. Dumb x 2

What I mainly don't like about Spaces is the bugginess and lack of API.

Secondary to that is the animation - it gets old very quickly. I just want to switch spaces, so I don't want to see windows flying around every time I do that. Great for the wow factor at Steve's keynote, but just an annoying distraction in reality.

YMMV Wink

LOL  Cheesy

I'll spend some more time seeing if I can work out a way to calculate if Yummy is in an active space. If I can find that then I can tweak the workaround to only kick in when Yummy is in an in-active space - that's when there is a problem.

Now, if only there was an API ...
