Yummy Settings for maximum stealth
« on: February 09, 2010, 10:14:48 AM »

Hi there -

I'm using Yummy FTP in a kiosk scenario to upload files on a continual basis. I've created a couple FTP Watchers and I'm using an Applescript to transfer files over time into the folders containing the Watchers so they get uploaded to my server in an orderly manner. I'm relying on Yummy to remain stealthy, quietly humming along doing its job, as I don't want the kiosk visitors to see any errors or dialogs.

However, every once in a while I'll get some kind of error that will grind the process to a halt. I've tried to set up my preferences so that errors are handled in the most automatic way, but I think I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone suggest how to set up my Yummy preferences for maximum stealthiness, i.e. no interruptions whatsoever, just try-again-next-time kind of thing.

Hope I'm being clear, and thanks for any help!!

Well first of all I'd say get to the bottom of the reported problem and fix it, but otherwise the best way to have Yummy continue no matter what is to set the Error Recovery settings in Preferences as so:

Drag the Delay slider fully to the left to engage 'Auto dismiss'
Drag the Max Recoveries slider fully to the right to the Unlimited setting

This will cause any error messages not to appear and Yummy will instead automatically continue with the choice made for dealing with errors: Do nothing, Try again, Skip or Abort

Since you have Watchers, you probably want to choose the Try Again option, otherwise the server won't ever receive the file(s) that the Watcher detected.

Thanks for the speedy reply, JD! I'll try that. The errors I'm getting usually say "This operation has been tried 16 times, etc.." (shame on me for not writing them down).. but I'm pretty sure they are all caused by a patchy wireless connection at the location. I had tinkered quite a bit that those Error Recovery Settings, but I guess I didn't fully understand them.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes..
