Can't resume an aborted trasnfer 26K+ files
« on: February 26, 2010, 02:52:32 PM »

Hello there,

We are using Yummy to connect our Mac-based stations to the SAN (Linux-based) by SFTP via Gigabit Ethernet. Our main use is to transfer image sequences. We are very pleased (best ftp client to date) with the speed and the multi-download options to use the whole bandwith... BUT (there is always one) We are having issues when transferring files and SOME of them exist in the target location.

Example: We have a directory with 27.000+ files. Each of them 8.9Mb (dpx image sequence). The transfer was aborted by mistake and it only copied around 14.000. When I try to re-start the transfer and tell to SKIP existing files it takes AGES to start transferring again. We don't need byte-per-byte comparison in this files. It should only be a matter of checking file existence (by name) and skip. Is there any workaround to this problem so the transfer could start quickly? Right now, it's like it was faster to re-download the whole thing!!

Thanks,

PS: We tried doing this only with 300 files and it took 5 minutes before I got anxious and killed the poor thing...

PS2: We already tried the 1.8.2b7 and get the same problem :-( One processor at 100%, Yummy dead and nothing happening. We tried with 900 files.

Hello there,

Could you take a look to the transfer issue I told you last week? Any thoughts?

Kind Regards,

I'm sorry for the delay. It's been a very busy week.

I have identified a problem in this area which is what I think you're hitting up against. I am working on a fix.

In the meantime, try to select 'Skip it' in the Upload/Download options panes in the Transfers panel of the Preferences. This should overcome the resume issue.

It does resume it eventually (I presume) but if I select more than 100 files it takes A-G-E-S to work out wich one to copy or not... My first thought was that it was comparing files in a byte-per-byte basis, but I checked out and it was off. I just need the filename comparison for the kind of task I was performing.

Thanks again,

It never compares byte by byte - the comparison is always only by name.

I can see a possible bug for 26000 items but for 100 files there is no way it should be very slow ... it should be almost immediate.

Maybe something with your directory structure is causing a problem for Yummy ... could you take a screenshot of your connection window so I can see how it is laid out? Email to support at yummysoftware dot com

Also, what kind of Mac and version of Mac OS X are you using?
