How to Diif local and remote files
« on: October 16, 2010, 05:09:11 AM »

Probably a stupid question but here goes... How do I get Yummy FTP to diff local and remote files. I click on a file in the local pane of Yummy and then File/Diff and nothing happens. In preferences I have Diff With set to FileMerge and that app is on my mac. I have Snow leopard and Yummy FTP 1.8.2. Any ideas would be appreciated as I will be doing a lot of diffs in the near future. Thanks in advance.

Odd, that seems about right. Mind you, FileMerge is not my tool of choice, as I often see odd behaviour with it  - try TextWrangler : NO LINKS ALLOWEDNO LINKS ALLOWEDtextwranglerNO LINKS ALLOWED   ... it's free too.

Thanks for the super quick reply. Ive got it sussed now. What I was not doing was selecting a file in the local pane and then ctrl selecting the corresponding file in the remote pain. Dahhhh! I'm stupid like that sometimes. I do have the wonderful textwrangler as well so I give it a whirl with that and filemerge... both work but I agree textwrangler looks better to me.

So I guess you can say Problem Solved. Cheers JD

Just one other thing, due to my playing about. One of my files in the local pain (test.html) is now highlighted in red/pink. What does that mean?

Ok, I have now sorted out the red label highlight. I must have inexplicably right clicked the file and selected Color Label from the bottom line of the dropdown. So this is all wrapped up. Cheers

Actually, I'm not really sure what you mean... if you ctrl-click on a file the contextual menu shows up, and Diff isn't an option there. My suspicion is that you're choosing different files this time. One of the odd behaviors I've seen with File Merge before is not accepting certain files - and providing no feedback to say why, just silence!

Anyway, glad to hear you're up and running now.

As you discovered, you can set color labels from the context menu. This works for both local and remote files.
