Delete watched folder files after upload?
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:43:15 PM »

I am evaluating Yummyftp for its watched folder functionality. What I need to be able to do is watch the folder, upload the files when they appear and then delete the files in that local watched folder after a successful upload. Is this possible? In the trial version I can't get into edit the ftp watch until its purchased. I'm sure this could probably be done with apple script too but am wondering if it's built into the ftp watch or if I could at least incorporate the delete into the same ftp watch applescript it produces. I would like to keep this process (ftp watch, upload and delete) as contained and as simple as possible without having to schedule or call a separate script just for the delete command. If this is possible or you can tell me a good way to accomplish this in conjunction with YummyFTP, I will happily buy it.
Thanks

Not at present, although it could be added as an option in an update. Right now though, since FTP Watcher is not an AppleScript but a fully fledged app, it's not possible to extend it.

You could try an AppleScript with a Folder Action in the Finder and script Yummy to upload then delete. Try it, and see how you get on - you can mail me (support at yummysoftware dot com) if you need any help.

I just found the archive option which appears will work for my purpose. I can manually delete the files or set up a script to dump those occasionally from the history folder. Unless there's a hidden "gotcha" that I'm missing, I think this will work fine. Hmmm maybe I could make the history folder a symlink to /dev/null???...

 Thanks

The archive option is probably safer anyway - what would be the consequence of Yummy deleting a file it thinks it has uploaded successfully if the server messed up in some way, or some other unexpected error occurred? Not a good situation to be in. At least with the archive you can still recover a file.

The symlink to dev/null most likely won't work, so a periodic cleanup script would be the solution.

No gotchas I can think of Smiley
