Scheduled sync?
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:32:44 PM »
I'm looking to set up a scheduled sync. I have the server bookmarked, and set up a schedule to sync a remote folder to the Mac once a day. How does this work? Does YFTP launch, run the sync, then quit or does it run in the background? Does YFTP need to be running for the schedule to run? Does the bookmark need to be opened to run?

You need to leave Yummy FTP running. It can be hidden to run in the background (select Hide from the Yummy FTP menu) and it will take care of the rest.

There is no need to open the Bookmark, that will happen automatically.

My recommendation would be to add Yummy FTP to your Login Items so that it starts automatically when you login to your Mac (or boot it up) so that it is a set and forget setup.

You can configure that in the Accounts panel of the System Preferences, where you can also specify that Yummy FTP starts up hidden, or you can simply select Open At Login from the Dock menu.

OK cool. Will the server connection screen remain open or close itself after the sync?

It closes automatically.

Has the procedure for scheduled syncs changed? I've noticed mine do not seem to run since the recent update, and the FAQ now reads dfferently than your reply above:

6. How can I automatically synchronize a copy of a website on my Mac with the server every day?
ANSWER: You will need a Bookmark for your server. Connect to the server using the Bookmark, then select the Synchronize option when you have connected and navigated the file browsers to your Mac copy and server copy. After configuring the Synchronize as required (Update Server in this case) press the Schedule button and select the start time and repeat interval for the Schedule. You'll need to keep an FTP Browser open in order for the Schedule to execute, but to make this completely automated, set Yummy FTP set as a startup item, and enable the 'Connect automatically on startup' option in your Bookmark.

Is this due to Mac App Store rules?

Good find! It's a mistake… you don't need to keep a browser window open. I'll go fix that now. Thanks!

I'm unsure why your schedules didn't run. Are they still in the Bookmark(s)? Did you select to pause all scheduled tasks?.. its an option in the Transfer menu and also a Bookmarks window toolbar icon.

Good to know. All seems to be working OK now. I actually saw the orange sync badge on the bookmark disappear last night while doing some regular FTP stuff. Odd. I was not doing anything with settings or the pause feature.

Will keep an eye and see how it goes. Thanks.

There is a known case in 1.9.3 where you could possibly lose a schedule. I suppose you might have stumbled on it, but it's not obvious. In any case, it's fixed in the next version.

Let me know if you get the problem again.
