Retina graphics?
« on: July 17, 2012, 01:56:51 PM »
Is a Retina-compatible update due out soon? I just bought Yummy FTP and it's pretty much just what I was looking for, but it looks pretty awful on my new MacBook retina display.

Not in the next update, I'm afraid. I'm aware of the need, but can't afford one for myself just yet. I will investigate asap.

Update : looks like I can use a simulation mode to test. I'll make a start on enabling this stuff... some of it is just settings, other stuff will need re-programming to work right. But I guess if you own a retina Mac then all you really want right now is for it to *not* look fuzzy! ;)

Update 2 : I've now enabled "preliminary" support for Retina mode in Yummy FTP (and sub-apps) for the next update :)

This means that while most of the app looks great there are some icons that will need hi-res versions and/or some drawing glitches, but for the most part Yummy FTP works just fine in Retina mode and looks pretty awesome too! It's certainly a ton better than the fuzzy mode :D

I will address any remaining issues with further update(s).

Any update on YummyFTP Retina support? I have the latest App Store version and the soft/fuzzy text actually starts giving me a headache after a while.

There has been a death of a close family member and as a result development has taken a back seat for a while. Sorry for the delay.

The retina enabled update is progressing nicely and it will be ready very soon.

I have a beta with it enabled, but not completed. I will push that out later today so that your headache can be relieved :)

Any update on this? This was almost 6 months ago and it still appears this doesn't have retina support (and it looks awful) =( currently regretting my purchase.

The current release (v1.9.1) supports retina displays.

It's been submitted for approval by the App Store review team, but there are long delays in getting it reviewed, let alone approved. It's not under my control, I'm afraid.

If you can't wait any longer, there is a way to migrate to the regular version : just download it from the link below, and run (double-click) it from the mounted DMG file, then follow the instructions shown.

http://www.yummysoftware.com/YummyFTP.dmg

Otherwise, you can simply run it in trial mode for 30 days - I sincerely hope it gets approved by the time that it expires!

I just saw your (2 star) App Store review today and can see that you purchased the $2 Lite version.

In fact, I should state that all current Yummy Software titles are retina enabled already, and these updates (including Yummy FTP Lite 1.0.1) have been submitted to the Apple app team for appraisal and review quite some time ago. I am just waiting for Apple to review and approve them - I have no control over this process, it's completely up to Apple how long they take and so far it's been very very long!

Given that app the titles currently available on the App Store were released before the retina displays even existed, forgive me for saying so but I think it's pretty unfair to rate the app as 2 stars for not supporting a technology which didn't exist at the time... You won't be the first person to have done this though  :o

Anyway, I've privately sent you an 'offer you can't refuse' so hopefully you won't regret your purchase any more ;)

Hi,

It's not updated yet because Apple dropped the ball on my app submissions. After waiting for weeks it turns out they were 'stuck in the system' and I had to resubmit them all. Now they are in review but I'm battling (literally) with the sandboxing policy and that's holding things up further. I've made concessions, and now they have too, we have to both agree, but I think we are literally days away from these updates going live on the store.

In the meantime, just install the 1.9.1 version from my site. The App Store and regular versions share the exact same data for Bookmarks and preferences, so they are interchangeable, and it will run in demo mode for 30 days. It will also offer you a way to side-grade out of the App Store version if you wish to do that.

By the way, I have no access to any sales data on the App Store, that is all private to Apple, so your Apple ID is no use to me I'm afraid.

Ok. Thanks for reply. But how can I get a normal version, not the demo one? I just saw here on the forum, that 1.9.1 already exists, and just bought it from the app store, and then mentioned that's 1.9.0( I need to buy it one more time? Or you can provide me with the serial number to unlock the 1.9.1 from ur site?!

Thanks in advance.

As I mentioned, the regular version will also offer you a way to side-grade out of the App Store version if you wish to do that : keep your App Store version installed, download the demo, do *not* install it but instead double click it from the mounted disk image. You'll now see the side-grade option offered.

Or wait (hopefully just a few days now) until the update is on the store.

Still waiting for appstore update...don't want to make some side grades with an extra 5$ :) or I did something wrong?!)

Hang in there... as far as I can see it should be today or tomorrow from the feedback my Apple contact is giving me.

The side grade offer does give you Yummy FTP Watcher v2 ($5) and Yummy FTP Alias v2 ($5) as well as a full (no App Store restrictions) version of Yummy FTP, so it's pretty good value even though I say so myself  ;D

It's not possible to make a free side grade due to licensing restrictions I am bound to. This is the best I could come up with.
