Problem with command-left-arrow
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:27:48 AM »
New with 1.9.1:
When renaming a file, Cmd-left-arrow should take the edit cursor to the left of the first character. Instead it gets intercepted at a higher level and takes you to the last directory listing.  (Same with right-arrow.)
Thanks.
(OS 10.6.

Thanks.

Actually that reminds me of another similar odd behaviour that has been there a long time, and that I've never understood. In list view if you select a folder and then Cmd-right-arrow, the folder is opened so that the contents are shown. But then Cmd-left-arrow doesn't close up the folder -- it causes a reversion to the last directory listing.  This is unexpected and not what happens in the Finder.

I have a vague idea that this has been discussed (and justified?) here before but can't find it just now.

Thanks.

I have investigated and the reported behaviour with cmd-left arrow is present in 1.9.0 also and even 1.8.9, and probably for a long time prior, so it's not a new problem, but it should be fixed never the less.

Cmd-right arrow is not required to open up the folder - you just need right arrow. Similarly, you just need left arrow to close it, not cmd-left arrow.

Great.  I find it hard to believe that it has been there since 1.8.9 or even earlier as I do a lot of file renaming with use of Cmd-arrow and have only just had the problem in the last few days. Strange!

Thanks for the arrows tip for opening/closing folders.  Never realised that obviously.  Although as reported the Finder allows with/without Cmd so Yummy's behaviour is different.

Look forward to the fix... thanks.

Never the less, I have just double-checked again (all the way back to 1.8.2 this time) and indeed the behaviour is the same.

The reason you don't get the problem in the Finder with cmd-right/left arrow to open/close folders is because Finder doesn't have a keyboard shortcut to move forward/backward in browsing history. The keyboard shortcuts in Yummy just happen to be cmd-left/right arrow.

I have now disabled the keyboard shortcuts for cmd-left/right arrow while editing a name. This makes sense so that you can use those keyboard shortcuts to quickly position the cursor to the beginning/end of the text. However, cmd-up/down-arrow will still end the edit and navigate up a directory/into the selected directory. The Finder behaves in the same way, in this case.
