Pasting passwords into YummyFTP that were copied from 1Password
« on: October 13, 2013, 01:45:16 AM »
Hello, I regularly use the password management program 1Password.. to, well.. manage my passwords.  They recently did a major update from 1Password 3 to 4 and now I can't paste passwords into YummyFTP.  Investigating, I ran into this line from their official blog

It may not be possible to paste into apps that use the older pasteboard (carbon) APIs. Popular apps include Microsoft Office, TrueCrypt and BBEdit/TextWrangler. Workaround: Try pasting into TextEdit first, copy it again and then paste into those apps.

I'm assuming the first sentence is accurate?? If so, will there ever be an update?

Well that's pretty poor of 1Passwd ... personally I would complain to the developer : yes, Yummy uses Carbon and yes, there is v2 (a complete rewrite) in the works, but all those apps and of course Yummy FTP are supported by the OS, even the upcoming 10.9, so for the developers to eliminate a few lines of code (no exaggeration!) at this point is premature, and only serves to inconvenience their own users.

Ugh.. so no response from them  :(" title="Angry" class="smiley"/>  I really like 1Password, but those guys are pretty arrogant and will not listen to any feedback. I'm back to copy/pasting to TextEdit and then to YummyFTP, which is a bit of a pain since I deal with a lot of clients and their sites.

I'm guessing v2 of YummyFTP is "ready when it's ready" and no time frame?

Let me see if I can't cook something up in an update to address this specific issue.

UPDATE: Looks like they "fixed" the issue on the latest 1Password 4.0.5

Improving clipboard interoperability with Carbon apps including BBEdit. Big thanks to Rich Siegel for helping us to find the solution.
