OSX 10.9 Mavericks
« on: October 22, 2013, 04:10:31 AM »
Just for information :

All the Yummy Software titles have been tested in the new OS and are all working well. That said, updates to all titles will be forthcoming shortly to address a couple of minor cosmetic issues, as well as adding some new and enhanced functionality, and the usual round of bug fixes :)

An update :

Three issues have come to light :

1. Some icons on the server may not display. This is an OS bug that I have reported to Apple, and that report has come back marked as Duplicate, which means other developers of other apps have the same issue. Apple have confirmed a fix will be forthcoming, but it could be months away, so I have coded a work around in the next update which overcomes the problem. In the meantime, uncheck the 'Icons reflect permissions' option in the Interface panel of the Preferences and the problematic icons will no longer be used.

2. Crashing on right-click. Every case I have seen of this is caused by 3rd party Contextual Menu plugins which are incompatible with 10.9 or are corrupted. Re-install or remove contextual menu plugins to fix the issue : this is *not* a Yummy bug or an OS bug.

3. On retina displays only, I've observed sluggish icon display performance from the OS on the Mac view side of things where there are non-standard icons (e.g. generic folder/file icons). I'm still investigating this, but since the (apparently re-written) Apple Icon Services framework seems buggy in general, I'll bet this is another bug in the OS *sigh*

Another update :

Number 3. Is fixed in the next update : it seems Mavericks has a very slow code path when drawing small Quick Look icons on a retina display. Unchecking the 'Quick Look icons' option in the Preferences will avoid the problem in the meantime.

Next issue : App Nap

This new feature of Mavericks puts apps to 'sleep' when the OS thinks they aren't being used, resulting in lower battery usage, although the same thing happens in Desktop Macs for which there is no power saving at all… go figure :o

But the problem is, the OS assumes it's right to sleep Yummy when it isn't and the result can be sluggish responses, particularly noticeable when using remote editing when the document is saved. So, in the next update I'm having to programatically tell the OS "I'm busy doing important work" so that App Nap doesn't kick in.

In the meantime you can turn off App Nap on a per-app basis : select Info in the Finder for Yummy then tick the 'Prevent App Nap' checkbox.

have had make a Upgrade of 1.9.2.b4.
What is that with the serial number and the migration?

The two versions are not the same. You cannot use the App Store license with the regular version, or betas.

You can use the beta in demo mode for 30 days, or you can take up the migration offer presented to you.

It's nearly out of beta. I have to make and test new builds of Yummy FTP Watcher and Yummy FTP Alias (since they are based on Yummy FTP itself) and then submit to Apple for review. That normally takes about 2 weeks. So my estimation would be early January 2014
