Amazon EC2 Ubuntu - get root privileges outside the home dir
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:30:54 AM »
Hi,

my first question was replied that fast, so I decided to ask another one.

I switched from Windows to Mac half a year ago. The only function I'm missing since then on all tested ftp clients, is connecting to a Amazon EC2 Instance running Ubuntu and getting root privileges to change files located outside the home dir.

The only Client I know is WinSCP. There is no Mac client which can achieve this. I would definately buy yummy FTP cause of the great features and support, if the feature exists or not.

In WinSCP there is a option to specify "sudo su-" while connecting.
Thats needed, cause you can't connect to the instance with root credentials, so you have to connect with the "user" ubuntu and then gain sudo privileges

Would be great if that feature can be added. If not I will decide to enable root access over ssh
hope I have explained it clear enough. Let me know, if I can help or if there are further questions

regards

:)

In fact I'm already familiar with the feature of WinSCP as it has been requested by others and I have investigated how it works behind the scenes. It's on my list of things "To Do" but I can't make any promises about when or even if it will be implemented at the moment … I already have a lot on my plate right now.
