Individual file transfer view
« on: September 02, 2014, 09:16:50 AM »
Hello,

I am new to Yummy, and have a basic question I can't seem to find an answer to via the search tool. When I am syncing my local machine to my Synology NAS server, and choose to sync the files, in the transfer progress window it only shows me a single line for all files being transferred, and I am wondering if there is a way to see each of the files and it's progress as it gets transferred and then to see what the remaining queue would be.

So far Yummy has managed to sync my folders better then a number of other tools I have tried, so I am really loving the simplicity and ease of use.

Hi,

Great to hear you're enjoying Yummy FTP so far :)

Currently, the only way to see the individual files being transferred is with a regular transfer. However, I think it would be reasonable to 'see inside' the sync much like you can grouped or folder transfers, so I'll see if I can add that in an update.

Thanks,
Jason

 Hey there JD,

Wow, thanks for the quick response. Yummy has already found a place in my toolset and I only purchased it this morning. Importing from other programs, a sync function that actually works, simple window with no clutter... this is exactly what I was looking for.

If I might ask another question, is it possible to use Yummy FTP to update modified time stamps on my FTP server? I have a local folder with many sub folder and files, and when I uploaded them to my NAS server previously, all modified timestamps got reset to the time of the upload instead of in-sync with my computer. It is a cosmetic thing, but something I would love to see if is possible.

Thanks!

It is indeed possible, but not always supported by FTP servers. You should enable the Use MDTM option in the aptly-named Obscure tab of the Bookmark settings. If your server doesn't support it no harm will be done, so it's worth a try :)

Doesn't look like mine does support this. Well thanks for including that and letting me know. I can't believe this FTP client is not more popular and that I had not come across it earlier.

Perhaps your server has an SFTP option? The ability to sync dates is built-in to the protocol.

Thanks!! :)

So I had initially sync'ed the folders using SFTP with Goodsync, and create timestamps were copied over, but when I go through the backup using OSX finder, it lists everything by modified date, which is showing the date of the SFTP sync and not the normal modified timestamp in the original folder on my local computer.

It is a cosmetic thing, and I know the system has to be looking at modified date, as that is how Yummy would be determining which file/folder would be newer when looking at two sync folders.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so quickly and helping me so much.

It's no problem - I'm here to help :)

I should be clearer ... setting the mod date for both local and remote files is built into of the SFTP protocol, but only if the client enables it. If you sync with Yummy I would expect the dates to match what you see locally, after uploading. Having said that, I have encountered one SFTP (in 10 years) that didn't support it.

Indeed, the mod date is the basis for sync decisions, so it's pretty vital to get this right. It's safe enough for one way syncing, but if you ever want to mirror or reverse the sync direction then all the server files will appear to be newer. Just something to bear in mind.
