Slow Download Speeds
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:30:28 AM »
I recently purchased Yummy watcher.  After I got it all setup I've noticed that i'm getting super slow transfer speeds compared to my previous client.  My home connection is 50/10 and the server i'm downloading from is 10Gbit/s.  When i'm using yummy watcher, i'm averaging about about 250 KB/s using SFtp.  When I switch back to my old client (LFTP) I average 1.5-3 Mbps. Items that used to only take a few minutes are taking hours.   Any suggestion on settings i could change to speed things up?

Watcher doesn't use multiple connections for a transfer job with multiple files, whereas Yummy FTP itself does (and probably LFTP too) but then Watcher isn't really just a client, it's an automated transfer agent. If you're seeing this difference with a single large file that would be a different matter - is that the case? If so, please test the same with Yummy FTP and any other FTP client for Mac to see what speeds are reported.

Thanks for the reply.  Its was a single file.  I tested several FTP clients including Yummy FTP.  All of them performed pretty slow when i use SFTP.  When i go to standard FTP i get 1-1.5mbps.  Not sure why LFTP performs so much better using SFTP.  I'll keep playing with it.

I'll have a look at LFTP. Command line only is a bit of a put-off but I'm intrigued how it can be so very different in speed to every other client without compromising security / encryption along the way.
