Schedule Synchronize
« on: January 26, 2006, 10:35:37 PM »

I would like to schedule a synchronize between my server and my mac.  I have the seetings ready and have a question or two.

1- How does Yummy connect to the server?  Do i have to leave Yummy open?  I guess I don't understand how the whole process works.

Thanks for a great piece of software!  I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Currently you need to open a connection to your server, configure the Sync as you want it, set your Schedule, then leave Yummy running - the Sync will execute according to the Schedule you have set.

Note that the Scheduled Sync is saved into the Bookmark for your server, so each time you make a connection using that Bookmark, the Scheduled Sync will appear in the Queue drawer awaiting execution. This will occur even if you quit Yummy and launch it again later, and Yummy will remember when it last executed the Sync, so don't worry about the Schedule being forgotten.

One way to automate this (as some users have already done) is to set Yummy to be launched automatically at your Mac startup time (look in System Preferences -> Accounts for this option) and edit your Bookmark which has a Scheduled Sync so that it connects automatically when Yummy is launched - Look in the Advanced Options tab of the Bookmark editor window for the 'Auto-connect at startup' checkbox.

In the future I'd like to refine all this to create Scheduled Bookmarks, or something similar.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick reply!

So if I read this correct, it can't be automated except with a restart?  Yummy won't actually connect to the server for me, right?

I'm trying to sync data from a personal wiki on the web to my Mac, so an automated solution would be best for me.  is there any solution for an autmated sync, that would launch Yummy every 12 hours in order to get the sync to work?

I'm not brilliant with scripting/programming, but am dumb enough to fumble with things until I get them to work or break them Wink

No, you misunderstand. There are many ways to achieve this, but Yummy can do what you want quite simply:

1. Launch Yummy
2. Connect to your server
3. Set up your Sync & Schedule it to run every 12 hours, then click the Run Schedule button

Now the Sync will occur once every 12 hours and if Yummy needs to re-connect to the server it will do so automatically. Obviously the synching will stop if you quit Yummy, so don't do that Smiley If you like, you can option-click on the Desktop to hide Yummy, or just  move the FTP Browser window out of the way.

If you do the thing with the connect at startup that I described previously, then you can switch off your Mac at any time, and when you switch it back on, Yummy will start syncing again automatically.
