folder location memory
« on: February 05, 2006, 10:57:22 AM »

Hi,
Just wanted to suggest that Yummy FTP remember the last folder location used for a particular bookmark. That way when i open up the connection on that server, the local folder will go to the last folder used for that bookmark. Could be set as a preference. Thanks!! PS Love the software.

Sounds like a nice idea. Your message implies that only the local folder should be remembered. Do you think the remote folder should be remembered as well, or should there be options to remember each separately? (ie local only, remote only or both)

I think an option for both is enough and it would be a great addition to yummy.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I think an option for both would be great. Of course, having a global default option for both local and remote and also a site specific option for both would be perfect!

And if you really wanted to do something different, you could have individual site local and remote default folders saveable as a sub-bookmark. Then when you see your bookmarks you would have a hierarchy, with the sub bookmarks under a site for the saved local/remote folders. For example:
Bookmarks:
-MySite1NO LINKS ALLOWED (clicking would open default local/remote)
---local/remote setting 1
---local/remote setting 2
---local/remote setting 2
-MySite2NO LINKS ALLOWED etc...

Anyway, I like the software - it's actually fun to use ftp - I don't usually take the time to make feature suggestions! Hope it's going to keep on trucking and growing...
Thanks!

I think the individual options plus global defaults do provide the maximum flexibility.

As far as the sub-bookmark suggestion is concerned, that's an idea. It's like an extension to the Favorites system that is already implemented - although they are not shown within the Bookmarks Viewer window hierarchy and they are not linked local/remote, for each Bookmark you can define any number of favorite folders for both the Mac side and Server side.

i've been hoping for this feature in an OSX ftp app for ages! the ONLY piece of windows software that i haven't been able to find a suitable mac replacement for is WinSCP. check it out if you want some ideas for yummy Smiley i particularly like it's integration with putty and it's bookmarking options. which is why i'm here..

i have a small suggestion in how to implement this folder feature.
when adding a new favorite, there could be an option to remember only local, only remote, or both directories to the favorite. perhaps the pane focus could suggest the defaults. ie, if the local pane was in focus when you clicked "add favorite", the "remember local" option would be selected. etc

ok, back to work and thanks for such a great product!

An interesting twist to this neat feature suggestion - thanks for that! I'll review this for inclusion in the next big update.
