Dreamhost hidden directories
« on: April 28, 2006, 12:27:42 PM »

I am using Dreamhost which backs up sites automatically to what they call a hidden directory. I can't see this in Yummy. Is there some way of getting access to it - Dreamhost says it is available by ftp and ssl.

The instructions it gives are cd .snapshot

But using this as a raw command just gets a message saying it doesn't understand cd

I don't think you need SSL in order to access this hidden directory - it simply uses the Unix convention of the name starting with a period in order to indicate it is hidden.

To show the 'hidden' items, select the 'Toggle Hidden Files' option in the 'Listing' menu.

To change directory using the raw command option, you need to enter CWD .snapshot although I think you'll prefer the menu option Wink

Thanks for the super quick reply. Unfortunately I still can't see the directory with either of these methods. Doing the raw command gets a message saying it was succesful - but no directory...

Ok, in that case you need to enable the 'Issue LIST -la command' checkbox, underneath the 'Show invisible items' checkbox of the Interface tab in the Preferences window. You might want to enable the 'Show invisible items' checkbox so that you always see these 'hidden' files in future.

Still no luck unfortunately - let me raise this with Dreamhost and see what they say.

I've never heard of those settings not working for those 'hidden' files, so I suggest trying again, after closing your connection window and/or quitting and re-launching Yummy. The .snapshot directory should show up for you to double click on and then see its contents. If not, let me know what Dreamhost says, please.

Still no luck with those suggestions unfortunately. I contacted Dreamhost and all they had to say was this....

hmm its a standard hidden folder just called .snapshot, nake sure that
you are accessing it from your home directory and not from inside one of
your domains directory.

I think the only way to proceed with this is if I take a look myself.

Please email me (support at yummysoftware dot com) and send me your login details for the server. I'll see what's going on and very likely get it working for you.

This has been resolved, do a search in the forums for "Dreamhost" and you'll see the solution.

Thanks, bumper314. The solution was to use the Go To Directory option:

Select 'Go To Directory...' from the 'Listing' menu, enter .snapshot and click Go to enter the directory and see the contents
