Thanks for the screenshots.
It looks like your server might not accept multiple simultaneous connections, which is what Yummy FTP uses by default. I suggest disabling this setting:
Preferences ... Transfers tab ... Allow multiple connections -> set to OFF
Click the Save button, then try your transfers again.

I am seeing the same error as his second picture, the "Server Refused Connection", but changing the option to "Use single connection" did not work.
I'm using Yummy 1.5.3. I'm using SFTP, going to a dreamhost account. It works fine via the command line and in Transmit.
The frustrating part is that Yummy works for a while, then stops working with this error. I've tried removing with AppZapper and reinstalling, this sometimes work for a while, sometimes doesn't. I've reset my preferences using RooSwitch, again, this sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
Thinking that maybe keyboard authentication was the issue, I tried to use my OpenSSL key, but, Yummy crashes if I try that...
Any ideas?
Steve

The error message won't be fixed with any reinstallation of Yummy FTP or resetting of preferences, and using an SSL key file will only work if the server is configured to accept your key - the message means exactly what it says... the connection was refused by the server. This might be because it is busy or temporarily unavailable. I suspect that when this problem occurs, if you try to connect using command line or Transmit, you'll also get the same problem.
Certainly, I have no other reports of problems with SFTP, and there are plenty of people using SSL key files with no reports of crashes, so I'm very surprised to hear the problems you had.
Please let me know:
1) When you get the error message in Yummy, are you able to connect via the command line or any other FTP client? 2) How did you use your OpenSSL key with Yummy to make it crash?
Thanks

Hey JD,
I can be simultaneously connected from the Terminal, Transmit, and Fugu, but Yummy is the only one that gives me the "Connection Refused", even if no other SFTP applications are running. And again, the weird part is that the bookmark/Yummy works fine for a while, but then stops working. Usually a reinstall gets it working again, but not this time. I seem to be dead in the water.
I again used AppZapper to remove everything, did a search in the ~/Library an deleted anything else with yummy in it, download a fresh version of Yummy, reinstalled, and still nothing...
Here are some other things I've tried without success: * FTP works fine * Tried using the IP address instead of host name * Tried different user name on the same system * Tried through different socks proxies, which made Yummy crash more often * Tried with and without "Initial Path" * Tried repairing the permission on my HD * Tried connecting to other SFTP server * Tried connecting from different networks * Tried connecting with LAN vs WLAN * etc...
I've attached one of the crash logs.
I shouldn't have brought up the OpenSSH certificate issue, it's another issue for another post perhaps, I just wanted to let you know what I tried without success.

Thanks for the crash log. It shows that you're using Haxies in your system, specifically Menufela version 1.5 (1.5b), which are known to sometimes cause random unexpected behavior in apps. If possible, please remove all your system Haxies or at least add Yummy FTP to their exclusion lists, and see if the crashes go away - I expect they will. For what it's worth, the log also showed that the crash occurred some time after a mouse button click by the user in the browser window, so as far as I can see there is no relationship to SFTP connections and this problem.
I'd like you to try your connection with Yummy FTP only for a while, then when the problem occurs again quit Yummy, launch Activity Viewer and see if there are any processes named 'ssh'. If there are, select each one and click the Quit Process toolbar icon. Try normal Quit first, but if the 'ssh' process remains in the list, try Force Quit. Now try Yummy again.
Let me know how it goes.

Hey JD,
Good catch, removing Menufela solved a number of weird mouse click behaviors I've been having lately, and you were right, Yummy hasn't crashed since (even when using the OpenSSH key like before), but I still can't connect to any SFTP sites. I think I have a larger issue though. I found that using the Finders "Connect to server" I can't browse any WebDAV or FTP sites, I get errors for both, so instead of wasting your time, I think I may just rebuilt my OS. Sigh, I thought I could make it to Leopard...
Thanks for the help, I'll let you know if I have any breakthroughs.
