Import Transmit bookmarks
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:47:52 PM »

Hi There,

Let first say that Yummy FTP is a breath of fresh air when it comes to FTP under Mac - I switched from Windows about 6 months ago and have been searching for an FTP client that I really connected with (pardon the pun).

Transmit was by far and away the closest I found and it was still miles away. Yesterday I stumbled across Yummy FTP and immediately fell in love with it. One problem is importing Transmit's bookmarks/favourites though. I'm not entirely sure how I do this. Not sure where they're stored to point the bookmark importer to.

Can anyone help me here please?

Also, does YummyFTP allow tabbed multi-site sessions or does each new connection have to open in it's own new window?

Thanks

Unfortunately, only Transmit v2 Favorites can be imported. From v3 and on, the makers (Panic) decided to encrypt them so they can no longer be imported. Even though there is an 'Export' feature, it appears to only work with another copy of Transmit.

Maybe you would like to ask Panic to help convert your Favorites into text format, for example. It's not the first time I've been asked about importing Transmit 3 Favorites (not by a long shot!), but I don't think it would be right for me to ask myself

Currently, Yummy uses a multi-window approach, but I have tabbed browsing high on my To Do list for the next major version.

Speaking of tabs... are you planning on:

2 tabs to 2 different ftp servers. Want to move a file(s) from one server to the other. Click-hold and drag items from server one to the tab of server 2 and have the transfer made.

Of course, the trick is getting a direct transfer going... rather than bring down a set of files, then uploading them elsewhere.

So this is slated for version 2?

Direct server to server transfer (known as FXP) is generally prohibited on the majority of servers these days due to security concerns, so I'm not too sure of the value of FXP anymore. But it is on my To Do list, all the same.

Here's a silly question, I exported my bookmarks from Yummy FTP running on Tiger and then tried to import into Yummy on a different machine using Leopard and it won't work. So I have to go into Keychain to find the passwords and then manually re-enter all my bookmarks. What a pain.

Leopard has caused a few issues for me so far...so it's not surprising either.

Yes, all your passwords are stored in the Keychain. You could have copied your keychain file across, of course.

Another option would be to add an 'Export Bookmarks' option which would keep the password embedded within the Bookmarks themselves. Yummy has the capability to store the passwords in the Bookmarks already, but by default they are stored in the Keychain - see the 'Store passwords in Keychain' option in the Server Options panel of the Preferences. But there is no export option, so I'd have to add that - another feature request! Smiley

Ok, mah bad, looks like I just had an old version of Yummy that didn't like Leopard. I was simply copying the "Bookmarks" folder over but it wouldn't recognize the files. Now it does. I still have to re-enter the passwords as they are no longer in my Keychain, but I'm guessing I can export/import those as well.

Sorry - I misread your original post. Yes, first thing to do with any Leopard problem is to install the latest version of Yummy FTP.

You should be able to copy your login.keychain file from your old Mac to your new one. It is located in:

Mac HD -> Users -> yourname -> Library -> Keychains
