HELP!!!!!! Allowing FTP Uploads/Downloads.
« on: January 18, 2008, 07:10:05 AM »

Can anyone please help me, I need to allow my customers to upload/download forms and pics from my business website. The web doesn't seem to be able to answer how I do this. I use Yummy FTP, can anyone help me out with this?

Any info would be great.

Many Thanks

I replied to the email you sent with the same question. Please don't post both in the forum and via email - it gets very confusing!

Below is my email response to your question, for others that are reading:

Hi,

To set up user accounts on your FTP server for your customers to upload and download files you will need to speak with the FTP server provider. There is nothing in Yummy FTP that will allow you to administer the server.

The only option that Yummy FTP can provide that might be helpful is the FTP Alias capability. An FTP Alias is a small application that you create with Yummy FTP which you can then give to your customers. They can drag and drop files/folders onto the FTP Alias icon and they will be automatically uploaded to your server. However, they do not provide a download capability or allow your server to be browsed. Of course, those customers would need to be using Macs and have a minimum of Mac OS X 10.3.9 installed, but they are not required to have Yummy FTP installed - FTP Aliases are free.

If the FORMS (whatever they are - I don't know) are generic for all customers then you could put them up as download links on your web site. You would need to speak with your web hosting provider and/or web site developer to organize that.

Let me know if I can help further.

Best regards,
Jason
