Whats the purpose of Favorites if you have Bookmarks?

I'm really confused as to why you have two systems that save connection information, yet they behave differently.  I suggest they be one and the same, though I'd love to hear why you have them both.

They differ in that, if you Add a Favorite, it automatically adds the highlighted item (very nice) to the Favorites lists, yet if you go to the Bookmarks menu and Add a Bookmark, you get a blank window and you have to fillout all the connection information (again).  How come Bookmarks does not behave like Favorites?

Please share what the purpose of these two options is.

I think maybe you're confusing Bookmarks with Transmit's Favorites.

A Bookmark is a saved set of details with which you connect to a server.

A Favorite is an often visited folder.

Note that the Favorites are stored per Bookmark.

I could be wrong, but I think I know where some of the confusion comes from.

Bookmarks, despite the fact that they're the primary means through which a normal user would access their server(s), are downplayed in the UI. They don't appear in the "New Connection" window that appears on launch, which includes the recent connections (double arrow) pull down and would be easily misinterpreted as being related to bookmarks. Then there's the toolbar in the app, which includes a prominent Favorites folder, but there isn't a Bookmarks folder or icon. The only way to see bookmarks is through the top menu.

This confused me to no end when I first starting using Yummy, but I eventually got over it. That's not to say it's a good solution for bookmarking. At the very least, Bookmarks need to be incorporated into the New Connection window (how many people consistently enter new server data anyhow?), with the recent connections relegated to the Application menu (a la "Recent Documents" in other desktop apps).

Good points. Although I'm sure the main source of confusion is the terminology - Transmit uses Favorites to store connection information and Yummy uses Bookmarks. Of course, Yummy has Favorites too but they are only for favorite folders - no connection details. For all those trying Yummy FTP after Transmit, it can be confusing...

I guess I could rename Bookmarks to Favorites, but then I'd have to rename Favorites to Shortcuts... and guess what? Fetch uses the term Shortcuts to describe saved connection details. Argh!

Just as well that I have plans to integrate the Bookmarks window into the FTP Browser window, which should make it quite a lot clearer.

Keep in mind the "New Connection" language. Bookmark=Stored Connection! E-mail clients call what is the same thing (stored connection details) an "account."

How about "Client-Server Scenario?"

I expect that New Connection will be assimilated by the FTP Browser window at the time when the Bookmarks window becomes a drawer, attached to it. The whole thing should meld together quite nicely.
