can't fetch file/folder listing
« on: March 21, 2008, 01:24:21 PM »

Hi,

I've used yummy for a couple of years on a couple of sites i have and it's worked perfect, however recently i got a new mac and when i try and use yummy to connect to my site from the new mac it logins ok but never returns the file list of my site, it just sits constantly saying 'fetching/file folders listing....' 'Item: root directory'

i've left it for about an hour once and still nothing came

it still connects no problem on my old mac

any idea what's up?

I don't have any other simliar reports, so maybe there is an intermittent problem with your server and/or your internet connection?

When its been trying to connect for a while (say 5 mins) select Save FTP Transcript from the File menu and post the contents of the resulting file

According to the transcript, the file listing is being sent by the server but it never sends the 'thats the end of the file listing' message, so Yummy sits patiently waiting for it, but it never arrives so Yummy reconnects. Unfortunately the same thing happens so you end up going around in circles.

At the time when this is happening, try connecting using another FTP client (eg Fetch : www.fetchsoftworks.com) and see if that has similar problems.

Very odd.  If possible, I would need to make a test connection myself. Could you contact me via email?

Hi,

I just started having this problem with 1&1 internet - seems to of started right after I upgraded my OS X to 10.5.3.  It always worked before that with no problems and still works on other ftp's, any thoughts?

Thanks,

Does it connect fine with another FTP client to the same site? If so, please let me make a test connection so that I can fix it. Contact me: support at yummysoftware dot com

Otherwise, it is most likely to be a problem with 1 & 1

Hi,

I've logged in with another FTP with no issues - it just seems to be Yummy. I'll set up a test account for you.

Thanks,

Thank you so much for providing the login information.

I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, but I have done extensive testing and the bad news is that I cannot repeat any problems. I have logged in immediately, every single time.

I have tested on 10.4 and 10.5 and on several different Macs, ranging from G4s to Intel Mac Minis, Intel iMacs and my own Mac Pro. I have also tested from two different ISP connections, with the same successful results. So I'm at a loss at the moment as to why there is a problem for you, and why it should suddenly appear after working without problems for so long.

Other than applying the 10.5.4 update, have you made any other changes to your Mac recently? For example, there is a utility you can install which will block apps from making connections - Little Snitch.
