Deny/allow message on downloads
« on: March 31, 2008, 03:37:45 AM »

Hi Jason,

I keep getting deny/allow messages from the OSX firewall (I think these messages come from the firewall) whenever Yummy tries to download a file that does not have the right permissions. There are some php scripts that generate files that are not downloadable through ftp.

Obviously it makes sense that Yummy cannot download them and it correctly displays a message asking me to cancel/retry/continue. The only thing is that I also get this firewall message and thus I have to click two boxes away for Yummy to continue.

Any thoughts would be welcome,
Joris

You have installed Little Snitch, which will alert you each time Yummy opens a data connection to initiate an FTP transfer. This is perfectly normal behavior for any FTP connection, but the problem is that Little Snitch can't detect that its a valid connection attempt because FTP data connections use random TCP port numbers, so it brings up this warning.

The solution is to set Little Snitch to allow all connections from Yummy FTP, or switch off Little Snitch - it is in the System Preferences window of your OS.

No, that is not the problem. Actually I don't have little snitch installed.

The message does not appear each time that Yummy opens a data connection, it only appears on files that fail to download.
It could happen something like this:
1. I drag a folder from remote to local
2. Yummy starts downloading the files perfectly.
3. All files download perfect except a few that do not have the right permissions. They cannot (and should not) be downloaded.
4. Yummy correctly gives a message that it cannot download this file and asks me to cancel/skip/retry
5. At the same time that Yummy gives this message a message pops up asking me if to allow/deny Yummy's connection. Yummy already has this connection and already has this permission.

Hopefully it is clear the way I describe it. It looks more complicated writing it than it actually is.

Very mysterious.... Yummy doesn't have such a message (in step 5). Could you please take a screen shot and post it here?
