Yummy FTP as Finder replacement for dragging&dropping files
« on: May 08, 2008, 12:36:29 PM »

Hi there,

Using Yummy FTP as a FTP client is a joy to work with...

It just popped to my mind to use Yummy FTP as a finder replacement while working locally. I quite frequently copy files from one location on my harddrive to another and the dual pane view of Yummy FTP would make drag&drop so much more comfortable (as oposed to popping finder windows).

Can I make a "New Connection" telling Yummy to just 'connect' to my local drive, thus having the finder (local drive) on both panes and if so, how would I do this?

Thanks

Hi Jo, and thank you for the kind compliment Smiley

What you're looking to do simply isn't supported in Yummy, or at least not in the way that you're thinking of. The closest thing I can suggest is to enable the Remote Login checkbox in the Sharing panel of System Preferences, then you can go to New Connection in Yummy FTP, enter:

Server : 127.0.0.1
Username : yourosxusernamelogin
Password : yourosxpassword
Protocol : SFTP

When you click Connect you will connect to the personal SFTP server you are now running on your Mac. On the right side are all your files and folders in your Home folder. If you navigate down to the / folder then you'll see a folder named Volumes. In there are all your hard drives.

Hope that helps.

JD,

thanks for the quick reply!

Works :-) I set up a bookmark for quick access.

When I drag objects from left to right (or the other way - does it actually make a difference?) they are copied. Works perfect - and updated in the Finder right away. What if I just want to move (and not copy) files or folders (guess that wouldn't make an awful lot of sense for a FTP client)?

You're welcome Smiley

Moving without copying can only be done if you open two windows - drag and drop between the 'Mac' views, or the Server views.
