Topic: Simlink not handled correctly in folder navigation menu? (Read 543 times)

With a file structure like: /home/mydir/simlinktowebsite where "simlinktowebsite" is a link to the actual folder: /var/www/html/ starting in /home/mydir and opening simlinktowebsite shows the navigation menu: simlinktowebsite mydir home /
However, choosing "mydir" from that menu actually just goes to the parent of the current folder -- i.e. to "www". And choosing "home" leaves me in "var". Confusing to say the least. I can see why you would go to the parent of the current folder, but then the menu is wrong. J.

This is because Yummy FTP uses the real resolved path to the symlink, not the 'fake' path including the symlink.
I'll see if this can be made to behave as you're expecting.

In the newest build I have here, there is a new option called 'Treat symlinks as normal items' in the Preferences. This changes the way Yummy deals with symlinks, and enabling it will provide the behavior you're after.
I've tied this into a preference setting because historically Yummy has handled symlinks differently to other FTP clients, so those relying on this behavior will continue to be supported.

Great. But now I'm really confused.
My current version (b10) has started doing exactly what I wanted. That is choosing an item from the navigation menu takes me exactly there, so I can't replicate the behaviour I described above. So choosing "home" takes me to "home". What happened here: did you update my version by telepathy?
(Command-up-arrow still takes me to the true parent but that is as it should be, so now we have the best of both worlds. But still confused as to how things changed.)

It's always been like this - it is not consistent... I didn't use telepathy The new build will correct the behavior.

Was the "new build" b11? Because it still behaves inconsistently -- the navigation menu, that is.
One other interesting side-effect: when (being in the sim-link directory or a sub-directory) you select the directory containing the sim-link, it mostly works, but, starting at the same point, if you select the parent of that directory then you are taken elsewhere (i.e. up the tree of the actual directory). Hope that description makes sense!

Did you enable 'Treat symlinks as normal items' in the Transfers panel of the Preferences?

Yes, it seems to make no difference. Sometimes the navigation menu works, other times I end up elsewhere.
Strangely enough Cmd-Up seems to work fine (reflecting the pref setting), and that is probably what I will use as it is faster than selecting from a menu. However, no doubt you will want the menu selection to work correctly.
(Took me a while to find that pref setting: the transfers panel was not what I was expecting.)
Thanks.

Ok, I'll check this out. Did you try re-connecting? There may be old info cached otherwise...
I'll be moving the preference to the Server Options panel, along with the other symlink setting

Yes, I have tried re-connecting, and indeed re-starting Yummy. Just tried again now, same problem with going up higher than the directory containing the link. Cheers.
