Connect w/applet Bug?
« on: September 30, 2006, 03:30:21 PM »

Think I've uncovered something... I have an applet to drop files on to transfer to my web site. But occasionally I just want to connect to it to transfer some files back to me (logs/stats). So I just double click the applet. Works fine.

So I u/l video I want a pal to see, but after it finishes I decide to change the filename, so I double click the applet, highlight the file and try and rename it. Won't let me (cites permission issues). Rinse and repeat, same thing. I then launch Yummy by itself and choose the bookmark to connect. NOW I can rename the file.

Seems both "methods" of connecting should function the same.

Is the 'applet' an actual AppleScript, or are you using an FTP Alias?

If you're using an AppleScript applet, it sounds like the applet is configured to connect with your server using a different account, perhaps anonymous access, and that's why there is a permissions issue when using it to connect & rename.

If you're using an FTP Alias, check its settings for username/password - click Edit in the Bookmarks window when nothing is selected and a file picker window will appear from which you can navigate to and select your FTP Alias to edit/inspect.

Oh I'm lazy... wasn't exactly sure what moniker you use, so I called it an applet. Indeed, it's an FTP Alias.

If I had username or password incorrect in the FTP Alias, then it wouldn't work at all, right? Still I checked it, and the username is correct, and I can't see/know what password is in there (ha, I've waited to bug you about this... I still feel that I should have the ability to see what password I use in a bookmark). I even checked both the FTP Alias and the bookmark to see if anything was different... everything was the same (even though I can not see the password).

Weird. There's no way that I can think of that would produce different results, since an FTP Alias is created using the same Bookmark settings that are used in the FTP Browser it is created from. Would you be willing to send me the FTP Alias and Bookmark via email so that I can examine them?

I hear you about the 'seeing passwords' issue, but if all your passwords were in your Keychain (as I would recommend) then this isn't an issue, since Keychain Access provides that capability.

Oh, it turns even weirder than that! Based on the other thread, I now have the username in the bookmark and the password in the keychain. Performing the same action (launch and open site from the FTP Alias) and guess what? NOW I can rename a file.

Except, the FTP Alias still has the password embedded in it, so the keychain "thing" should have no effect.

Probably not a "server thing" as I was able to easily edit the file IF I connected via launch app, choose bookmark, so the best I can come up with is that clearly you built a software program with a droll sense of humor.

lol  Cheesy

Ok, after some experimentation I found that if I edit a Bookmark / FTP Alias and enter the same password as is already in the Keychain then the password in the Bookmark does not get removed. I consider that a bug and I've fixed it in the latest build.

Thanks for spotting the odd behavior!

Indeed I am a product of the odd-dood phenomena.
