YummyFTP Universal Binary
« on: January 28, 2006, 02:07:18 PM »

I'm sure you knew that sooner or later somebody would ask. Wink

I'm happily typing this on my new iMac Intel Core Duo and of course I had to give YummyFTP a try. It works nicely under Rosetta; no problems at all. Still, a native version would definitely rock. If you've got a universal beta that needs to be tested, I'll gladly do that.

Best Regards,

Yes, I was kinda waiting for that Smiley I don't have an Intel build yet, I'm afraid, much less an Intel machine to test it on. Thanks for the offer, though... I'll get there as soon as I can.

Has there been anymore progress on a universal version? Rosetta is a drag...

I'm available to test any builds if you need.

No. When there's an Intel build ready for a test I'll post a message here to invite beta testing. For what it's worth, making an Intel version of Yummy isn't just a case of enabling a checkbox in Xcode... there's a lot more work involved. If Apple had stuck to their promised schedule of delivery for Intel Macs then I would have been ready, but as you know, they're six months ahead of schedule.

In any case, I'd already planned to release a new version of Yummy with new functionality and a few bug fixes in the near term. After that I will be concentrating on the Intel build.

As far as Rosetta is concerned, I'm interested to hear where you think there is a problem with Yummy FTP. From the feedback I've had from the two Yummy FTP users with Intel Macs (so far) there don't appear to be any problems, although a very slight transfer speed degradation on high speed networks was noted.

Thanks for the update on it, I was just curious about how far out it might be.

Fortunately Yummy itself works fine in Rosetta, no issues there. I just try to avoid running apps that need Rosetta because it's a resource hog (mainly a memory hog).

Anyways, since I haven't said it yet, you've done a great job on YummyFTP. It's undoubtedly the best FTP app I've ever seen.

Ok to give you rough guesstimate of when I think it will be ready for testing, I think "a few weeks" is a reasonable expectation.

Thanks for the nice comments about Yummy's progress so far Smiley The latest build (in beta) includes some nice new things, which should at least keep you happy while I work on the Intel build... Wink
