Problems with Yummy and Leopard
« on: October 26, 2007, 10:37:38 PM »

So I have Yummy 1.6.1 in my new Leopard install.  Here are a few things I'm noticing, let me know if it's me...or a Yummy problem.

- Files downloaded to the Desktop folder....are not 'shown' on the desktop.  The files are there though the finder...but not when looking at the desktop.

- Can't delete files on local machine (deleting works on remote servers fine)

That's all for now....if I find more, I'll be sure to post.

Thank you for the bug report. These issues are only just coming to light in the release version of Leopard. And as far as I can see, most of the bugs I reported in the last beta seed are still there

I'll keep you posted as soon as I have a new build.

To follow up on this particular report:

1. There seems to be some weird behavior in the Finder, not only on the Desktop, but in any folder - Finder simply doesn't update it's list to show the new item(s). The important thing is that the files are transferred perfectly. I'll see what I can do to persuade Finder for now ... and of course I will log yet another bug report with Apple.

2. I can't reproduce any problems with deleting on the local machine. Is there anything more specific you can give me? Anyone else see this issue?

To update:

I've found a way to make the weird Finder behavior go away, which will be included in the next update. Once the Finder bug gets fixed I will review the work around.

I still have not found any problems with deleting local files, though.

There are some visual glitches that I'm working around right now, but other than that Yummy seems to be working Smiley

Sorry, didn't have email notifications turned on for the message boards.

I'll take a look again tomorrow to see if I can reproduce the deleting problems and let you know.

Thanks for all your hard work.  I know Apple left a lot of developers scrambling to get software updated.

JD,

So, I still can't delete a local file or folder.

Here's what I did on my Mac, create a new folder, then I tried the following, none of which worked:

- Right click on folder and select Delete
- Highlight the folder and choose the Delete icon in the toolbar

The only thing that worked to delete the file was to drag it from Yummy, and highlight the Trash in the dock, wait for the Trash folder to open and drop the file in the trash (I'm guessing this is no different from just dragging to any local folder).

Let me know if you want me to test something.

Hi,

This is to report I can't delete any local file or folder, exactly as already reported by netnothing.
I'm running Yummy 1.6.1 and OS 10.5 on a PowerMac G5 dual 2GHz.

Weird. I don't see the problem here on my Intel Mac or on my test PowerMac

Are either of you using FileVault? This has caused all sorts of problems in the past, and not just with Yummy

Ah....

Do you have 'Delete moves items to the Trash' enabled ?

If so, then I have duplicated the problem and I am looking to fix it now... for what it's worth, this setting is not enabled by default.

Yes, it was enabled.
After having disabled it, I can delete local files and folders  Smiley

Good Smiley

I have to report that this problem appears to be caused by a new bug in the OS. I am making a work around for it right now, but it will take a little time.

Yup....I had that option selected as well.  Unchecking it solves the issue.

JD...thanks for the efforts so far.  One reason I keep using Yummy is your support!

Just imagine if Apple were bought out by Yummy -- it would be a Yummy Apple indeed -- and customer satisfaction would suddenly rocket. Any user with a gripe would get either a personal explanation of how the problem can be overcome or an update to the OS within a day.  And developers wouldn't have to fudge their code just to cope with long-terms bugs.

SJ can't last forever, how about JD for CEO?  Grin

LOL dammit, you uncovered my plans for Mac OS X 10.7 codename Yum!  Shocked

Well, thank you for your support, guys!!

To keep you all updated, I've written the work around to get Move To Trash working again and I'm testing hard now.

I have some other reported issues to attend to (eg software update seems to be broken) and then it should be ready to roll.

In the meantime, if anybody has any more Leopard bug reports, please either email me (support at yummysoftware dot com) or report it here. Thanks!
