I cannot change the permissions for my files...

Hi,

Whenever I try to change the permissions of my files folders so they can be accessed on the net I'm given the error warning...

Message from the Server:
Could not change the perms on <<filename>>: Success

I dont think this is a problem with the FTP itself but I was hoping you could point me in the direction of the problem as I'm new to all of this and this problem has really stumped me?

I think that what the server is really telling you is that you don't have the right to set the permissions you've chosen on the selected file(s).

This might be simply because you aren't allowed to, due to your account restrictions, or you're trying to set permissions at a higher level than your own, which is never allowed.

I can't really be sure what's happening without seeing an FTP Transcript (File menu -> Save FTP Transcript option) of this problem occurring - If you continue to have difficulties, please contact me via email and send me the Transcript: support at yummysoftware dot com

I have the exact same problem, whatever file/folder i try to modify permission on...
If i log to the server with the same user/group in ssh, i can chmod with no problems... Also, it works with another ftp client (rbrowser for instance).
That was with 1.5.0, will tell you soon how it goes with the latest release (1.5.2).

In this example, i've just tried to put write permissions on the favicon-old.ico (666 instead of 644), to no avail... 550 permission denied, nothing more... Command-I, than click on the write buttons, apply to "files", not recursive.

This isn't a problem in Yummy - the server simply doesn't think you have permission to change the settings on this file.

I can't see how any other FTP client would work, unless it actually uses an SFTP or SSH connection instead of an FTP one. RBrowser, for example, will use an SSH connection whenever possible.

If you have SSH access to the server, is there any reason why you can't connect using SFTP? This would probably get around the problem.

Thanks again JD, i'll dig into SSL connection, and in my proftpd server configuration. I can't telll anymore for the other clients as i dumped them as soon as i registered Yummy .
