In fact, some people have asked for a more NetFinder-like interface, possibly as an option. I think the multiple windows options you're suggesting will fill that need to a degree, so let's see what I can do... The standalone FTP Alias is an enhancement I had already planned for

Yes, I can see why you got confused. I'm not sure about just opening just the last folder in the selection range, however.
Perhaps it would be better to simply mimic the Right Arrow behaviour in this situation. This would work well in List view. For Column view, though, since only one folder at a time can display its contents, the current behaviour would have to remain.
Alternatively, there's no reason why Yummy FTP couldn't open a new FTP Browser window for each of the selected folders. It could be added and then the behaviour would match the Finder. But I question whether that's really what most people would want or expect - lots of open windows for the same server. I'd appreciate some feedback from everyone on this as a possible enhancement.

Yummy FTP / Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Suggestions/Requests

Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum A Synchronize Preview facility is already being worked on right now, but since it's a substantial amount of work I can't yet give you an accurate time scale for it's inclusion in a release, unfortunately. But it's coming... The FTP Disk feature from Interarchy or WebDrive feature would be a cool addition for Yummy FTP. I'll certainly add this to my feature request list. Since I don't own a PC, would you please email me to describe how WebDrive differs from the FTP Disk implementation in Interarchy? Then I can make some informed design decisions. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for the appreciation of all my hard work -Jason

1) Oops. my bad. I'll correct this for the next update. 2) I'm not sure what you would expect Cmd-Down Arrow to do here. In the Finder, this opens multiple windows - one for each of the selected directories. In Yummy FTP, Cmd-Down Arrow is the shortcut for 'Enter Into Directory' and is supposed to display within the same browser window. The Cmd-Right Arrow shortcut is for 'Forward History'. To open the selected folders within the browser you only need to press the Right Arrow - this is the same as the Finder. To close them again, you need to press the Left Arrow key. Again this does not require the Cmd key and the Finder behaves the same way. Not annoying at all! All feedback is very welcome

Yummy FTP / Feedback & Suggestions / Re: SSH-Tunnels and FXP

1) SSH tunnel So, you'd like a new connection type in addition to FTP and SFTP, named FTP-SSH, correct? This is already on my 'To Do' list
2) FXP Actually, at least two well known FTP clients do support this. I have plans to add it also, although it's not widely supported by servers due to security concerns.
3) Preferences like "System Preferences" Sure. It's just a visual thing, and therefore low on my priority list, but it is already planned.
4) Folder Resume The automatic reconnect/resume functionality in Yummy FTP will handle this for you. The only time it won't is if you actually quit Yummy FTP or manually cancel the transfer. In the latter two cases I can see the need for this. For now, until I can add this functionality directly, you should be able to use the Synchronize feature, with Update Mac and Compare by size options set. This will do the same thing.

No problem. Open the Bookmarks Viewer window by selecting 'Show All Bookmarks' from the Bookmarks menu. Then click the Edit toolbar icon - you will be shown a file chooser window and you can navigate to and select one of your FTP Aliases. Now you can adjust the Bookmark which is embedded within the FTP Alias. Repeat this for all your FTP Aliases.

Yes, look in your Bookmark settings - there is a pane named 'Time Zone'. There is even a setting there that sets Yummy to automatically detect the time zone. The dates/times in the server listing will be adjusted by the time difference to make it appear that the server is in the same time zone as you.

Yummy FTP / Yummy FTP Talk / Re: Yummy FTP 'Lite'

Thanks for your feedback, Andreas. The idea is not simply to create a publicity stunt, although heaven knows Yummy FTP could do with some publicity I honestly feel there is a need for a very cheap and cut down version. But you have to bear in mind that there are already free FTP clients out there, so anything that must be paid for has to at least offer the same functionality, I think. The main reasons Yummy FTP is still attractive when compared with free alternatives are its speed, reliability and polish, so removing the auto-reconnect and queueing system would be pointless, I think. My initial thoughts for features which could be cut out would be: AutoRoute FTP Alias FTP Watcher Suffix Mapping Filters List view only (no Column view) Scheduling (for synchronization, batch & repeating transfers) Edit with Any app (standard apps like BBEdit will still be available) Maybe limit to connecting to one server at a time? Several specialized options, such as Dec VMS support, EPSV/EPRT support, automatic time offset detection, encoding translation, interactive transcript, etc. So you can see where I'm going here. Nothing is cast in stone - I'm throwing ideas around to get feedback. Other suggestions are welcome, but before you post please take a look at what the free alternatives offer first. Thanks, Jason

Yummy FTP / Problems & Bugs / Re: just got yummy, how do you?

The next update won't be out for some time yet - I'm working on a lot of new things But I can add the changes you need to the next beta build and let you know when it's available, which should be in a few days. For reverting the FTP helper, you'll have to download something like More Internet from VersionTracker. This is a System Preferences pane which will allow you to configure all of the helper apps. Note that only one helper app can be active at a time, so either it's Yummy FTP or it's Safari - you can't have both.

Hi,
I also replied to your email with the same message, but for others to see.. the password is currently omitted on purpose for security reasons, but I have no difficulty in adding a preference setting to include it for the next version.
As far as the user name issue is concerned, I'll look into it and include a fix in the next update.
Thanks for the feedback!

Yummy FTP / Problems & Bugs / Re: Problem when uploading files that are begining with a blank space.

Thanks for coming back with this information. It's useful for me and for others.
I don't think there is really a very good solution to this that can be implemented in Yummy FTP. It's possible to enclose the name in quotes for the CHMOD, like SITE CHMOD 775 " filename.jpg" but this is not a standard and it's likely that other servers will reject this format.
The only solution that will work with all servers is to stop using spaces at the beginning of names.

I've just tested this and had no problems whatsoever. The error message you're getting is not from the upload itself (which was successful) but from the setting of permissions on that file after it was uploaded. So it sounds to me that your server does not work well with files that start with a space character. I also tried renaming the file both in the Mac listing and the Server listing (you did not say which) to remove the space character at the beginning. The file was not deleted, but it did reposition itself lower down in the listing because the listings are sorted alphabetically. I think you assumed that the file was deleted, when in fact it simply moved lower down in the list and out of view. I will need to see an FTP Transcript from you showing this problem occurring. That way I can be certain that my diagnosis is correct. Please ensure that you enable the 'Log all connections' checkbox in the Transfers tab of the Preferences first, then perform your transfer. Select 'Save FTP Transcript' from the File menu and send the transcript file to me by email at the support email address. Are you the only one with this problem? All I can say is that nobody else reported such problems, and certainly, using file/folder names that start with a space character is never a good idea
